what is a Nautilocalyx

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

in reading about rooting gessie stems as in lipstick plant it mentions...Nautilocalyx

what is this?

Here's a link http://www.gesneriads.ca/genchrys.htm to gesneriads.ca that shows pics. Maybe that will help you a bit, cause I'm clueless. I've never heard the term.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

A member of the gesneriad family sometimes called the "guppy plant", it has pouched flowers that look like "candy corn". Same care as for violets, but will tolerate more light and less water.

Some nautilocalyx have lovely foliage - kinda like episcia. (Not to be confused with Nematanthus which has the pouched flowers.)

More technical info on the genus: http://www.botanik.univie.ac.at/morphology/genera_gesneriaceae/genera/nautilocalyx.htm

Generally, they like warm and humid.

yep good links for the sticky

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

Alli your links were fine but the "guppy plant" reference was off.

My link is in the sticky - look for taxonomy. So many links there, it's tough to find.

Personally, I think episcias have a neater growth habit.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes I agree picture of Dale Martins reminds me some of my Episcia fimbriata 'Blue Heaven'.

they are both in the gessie sticky already. Key sent them a while ago. (one under History and Taxonomy, then once there you can find Nautilocalyx and many many others) the other is under Misc. Propagation and Culture Links, (last one)
these may be catagorized wrong, so y'all let me know if you think they should go under another heading. I haven't spend as much time following the gessie links as I need to.

everything looks good to me..it is much appreciated
