Will these saffron crocusses come back?

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

I planted saffron crocus for the first time last fall, and we had a wonderful roasted saffron chicken that was extra fun, since I grew the saffron.

The foliage has been out for almost 3 months. A week or two ago, I noticed what appears to be damage from browsing of some sort, and today more of the foliage looks like something got to it.
Here's a picture of the foliage that looks like it's been cropped just a couple inches above the ground.

Is there a possibility that it's just breaking off as it ages? Did the plants get enough time to feed before this happened or should I brace myself for a poor showing next fall? Is there anything I can do to protect what hasn't been touched yet? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Rabbits??

All of the cuts are level. You don't have wild weedwhackers do you? When I have watched rabbits, they tended to follow a blade to the ground. If a deer were to gather the foliage up and nip it, they could end up even like that, leaving conveniently enough foliage for the bulb to keep on going.
Odd.

I must have 'weed-whacker-bunnies' around here. That's just how things look if they aren't deterred ~ mowed down to about an inch and then they continue down the line like it's a buffet.

How odd. Is this only with crocus or is this with anything?

Could be either rabbits or deer, but I really really think they'll come back for you just fine. My crocus get grazed quite frequently by local wildlife - sometimes all the way down - yet they've been coming back in force for the last 10 years.

Worst ive ever run into were squirrils but they were after the bulbs, wiped out 125 bulbs in 2 days

Don't tell me that I have got a squirril that just had a nest full of babies I got little sqirrils running around my yard like little maniacs! I would just cry if they started to eat stuff. I have ten oak trees hopefully that will keep them full until my figs come in.

good luck but they are destructive little beasts, bushytailed rats, i keep my place clear with a shotgun, have clients that have spent thousands fixing attic windows that were destroyed and another who's patio, concrete, cracked and buckled cause the wife loved the chipmonks so much that she fed them, must have had 20 or more under there, they tunneled under the house as well but that was minimal damage in comparison.
