Hi everyone - especially Jill / critterologist :) Although I don't grow AV's the surely are beautiful !! One of the newest subscribers here to DG also works here at our office in Frederick MD and is an avid AV grower and lover.
I convinced her to join DG and she's a bit shy about joining in. Will y'all give her a howdy ?
Here name is Wanda and her DG page is here: http://davesgarden.com/members/WBAILEY29/
Thanks everyone and again, your work here in the AV's is tremendous !!

Hello AV Lovers :) Will you welcome a newbie for me?
Both of you, WELCOME, join in. This is a super group to be a part of. It enriches my life in a very positive way.
i am only here about a month myself..and i have never found a better group of folks...welcome aboard....we're so happy to have you both...
Hello everyone! So nice to meet you! As Dea told you, I love African Violets. My mother used to have shelves and shelves of them yet I haven't had the best of luck. My best friends mother passed away years ago and when we went to pack up her belongings I found one that was almost completely dead. I took it home and I nurtured it, and brought it back to life. It bloomed regularly for a couple years and then became "ill" and died. Over a year ago, I bought another one from a Walmart when it was small and full of blooms. Once I got it home, all the blooms disappeared and although it continued to grow large and beautifully green - still no blooms. I took it to work with me at my previous job and about a month before coming here to work with Dea, it started blooming like crazy. Once I removed it, and took it back home, it stopped. I want to bring it in here with the flourescent lighting but because of the cold I didn't want to shock it. I would really love to learn how to grow them and be successful at it. Any advise would be so welcomed! And - as a final note - thank God for Dea introducing me to Dave's Garden! I'm sure that I will make alot of new friends and learn alot about gardening.
Well, if I can grow them, you can grow them. My husband says I am the only person he has ever known that can kill a cactus. My best advice is don't overwater and make sure they get plenty of light. I have mine under flourescent lights. Natural doesn't seem to do much good for me. And make sure the pot is the size that you need. My plants in pots that are too big just sit there and stare back at me. No blooms, no growth, nuttin...........
Glad you are here!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome Wanda & thatnk you Dea for bring her here..
Glad you found DG's and the AV forum.
I'm sure you will find all the help you need here and make new friends as well.

~~~~~~Waving Hi Wanda and Welcome to Dave's Garden. I don't post much, but I am here reading the post. I am still learning about African violets. The AV forum members are very nice and love to share their knowledge with us. It is always nice to make new friends too. Enjoy!
Hi Wanda and Dea hope you both can hang out in our wonderful DG African violet fourm !
When I first bought my first named African violet I had no Id there were named Av's. Gosh so much excitment. I never started growing by leaf until almost two years ago now. It takes a good 9-12 months on the most to get a blooming plant from a leaf and I was really not expected to be here that long but with God instead. So I kept buying blooming plants all named . I shared and gave them away too :))
I joined a local group that began in 1955 so it had a group full of help and knowledge. And I love to read and I experimented !
Now growing African violets is so easy and fun ! We will have you enjoying many blooming plants and your first baby leaves growing from your first Mom leaf ! Once you start growing by leaf it is such an amazing wonderous advent to witness their growth you will be addicted with the rest of us :))
Welcome Welcome Welcome :))
Welcome, Wanda! Thanks for bringing her to the party, Dea!
Wanda, it sounds to me like your African Violet just plain adores Dea... you brought it to the office, and it bloomed like crazy; you took it away from the office, and it sulked. QED :-)
I've learned so much from the folks in this forum & elsewhere in DG! I've just been having a ball since subscribing last January, and I hope you'll have fun too. Please don't hesitate to ask questions... and also check out some of the great information & fun links in our new "sticky" threads (the ones at the top of the forum page that don't move).
I hope we'll have a chance to meet soon... and perhaps I can send a couple of plantlets home with you...
:-)
Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes you have given to Wanda !
She's a gal who will learn much from all of your knowledge :)
Dea
Wanda Hi !
Are you growing any African violets now ? Or just the one at the office. It must like the lights, and enviromant there.
They say it's best to get small plant they adjust easier to a new enviroment.
Have you grown any Av's by leaf :))
Allison
Oh man, I am always a day late and a dollar short- that's what happens when I try to have a life away from the AV forum...
Welcom Wanda, I am rather a newbie myself, although they won't let you feel that way for long. Great group of folks here with lots of help and encouragement! You will love it here!
