Where can I find beautybush in S Texas?

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

I would like to put some beauty bush in my yard. Anyone know where I could find some?

caraboof, I've been searching for one too for the last couple of weeks and according to their website today, RCW Nursery has 3 gallon ones for $18. Gives me an excuse to go out there... I LOVE that place!

Arbor Gate in Tomball also sells them. That's where I got mine last year, and I think I saw some when I was there last Sunday.

The bush I am talking about is the native one that has the purple berries on it.. Is that what we are talking about ?? :::grin:::
I saw one on Daves Garden plant files that has just flowers.

I bought a 3 gallon one yesterday at Buchanan's in the Heights. And yes, mine will get the bright purple berries on it. I also found a dwarf Wax Myrtle there and bought that too! In fact, my truck was full when I left there! From there I went to Joshua's Native Plants just a short distance away and bought three Strawberry Bushes. I had never heard of these little gems, but they will be a nice addition to my shade garden plus the birds will thank me later! What a fun trip!!!

They survive on total neglect and in the worlds worst soil! I have one up to the roof of my one story house (about nine yrs old) give them a "wide berth". They do great--a true native plant!

edited to add they are the world's easiest plant to root...just point a branch down to the ground in the spring, lay a rock over it, in 6 weeks another plant.

Wide Berth is right!! I planted a tiny one about 6 inches high last year, and it grew to 6' by 5' in ONE season - you will love it! Patin, how big to the dwarf Wax Myrtles get??jackie

What about sun? vs Shade?

Caraboof, mine is in partial sun. You will love this plant! jackie

davesgarden5... I was told by the staff at Buchanan's the the Dwarf Wax Myrtle only gets 6', which is why I bought it. Time will tell. I have a regular wax myrtle and love it as much as the birds do, but where I plan to put the dwarf, I don't have as much space available.

Now, if I could just find a Serviceberry bush that doesn't get real big and would do well in the Houston area, I'd be a happy camper!! Anybody have any ideas?

Mine is in the "east" canyon (side of the house).

Dmj, are you saying the Beauty Berry will root from the stem, or one of the others that were mentioned?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Beauty berry is super easy to root. Just bend a stem down to the ground (as soon as it buds out), mound some soil over it, and hold it down with a rock over where you have it bent down. I'll root you some this spring if you haven't found any near you--they are pretty easy to find tho--go to the privately owned nurseries. Give it a good, say 6 weeks, to root. Early spring is best; mine haven't "budded" out yet.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have one, just didn't know you could do that. So should I wait until the buds appear? Also, will they work from a stem cutting using rooting hormone?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

yes to both. You can start them now, it will just take a wee bit longer.

Thanks guys....heading to Arbor Gate tomorrow!

Have fun, and tell them I said "hi"!!!

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

I will maybe we will meet up there some time!!!

Definitely! If I hadn't been home sick all week I'd go tomorrow. I went out briefly with a friend this afternoon (cabin fever!), but started coughing and hacking - nobody wanted to be around me, lol.
