I wanted to share this pic with those who might be interested in growing begonias from a leaf section. Aside from the fact that they are so darn cute when lil, they are pretty easy to do especially with the Rex begonias.
I grew this one from a small leaf section planted in a solo cup and placed in an old cookie jar. Only took a couple of weeks and it already has ears up.
Enjoy the pic...

So cool. Thanks for the info and the picture MsC.

MsC,
I have heard of people using canning jars as incubators for cuttings. Was your leaf able to receive any light through the cookie jar? Did you leave the top on it all the time?
Shirley
A beautiful plant....just from single leaf????? you grow in shad or under full sun?

MsC are you just trying to taunt me? LOL
cicada,
Yes I use canning jars too. I just turn them upside down and put the pot on the inside of the lid. That way the light can get to the leaves. They don't really need much light though, just the heat and humidity.
I just happen to have an empty cookie jar and so I used it.The rocks in the bottom were more for decoration because I had a small African Violet that had out grown it's space. You can use any clear terrarium type container.
I just cut the leaf in a V shape with a main vein or two and poke it down in the soil. I only mositen the soil otherwise the leaf could rot. This is the fastest I ever had one put up and leaf, so I was happy.
MsC,
Job well done! Rooting and new growth in two weeks' time is great. I have some leaves that have been in pots inside ziplock baggies for over a month and still not showing any signs of rooting. They are under flourescent lights, but in a cool room. I think I should move them to a warmer spot.
Shirley
MsC,
Do you by any chance have pics of how you cut the leaves? I'd like to give this a try.
Thanks,
Sharon
