I thought you'd get a kick outta knowing I couldn't resist putting down a begonia leaf after visiting the begonia forum....so here's the product of my efforts..lol
I haven't grown begonias by leaf for a really long time. It still gives me a tickle to see a baby grow.

Wanted to add it was grown in an old cookie jar..lol

Ooh! MsC! I'm so excited... have to tell you that my one surviving leaf of the begonia slip you sent me has started getting lots of teeny "ears" at its base!!! I think they're too small to get a good photo, but I'll post one when they get just a little bigger!

That's wonderful CriterO!
We've had a very mild winter here so my begonias are doing ok...if you need to try again I can always add some to our spring trade. I've had 2 small ones growing in a water jar since last year and I need to find them homes they look funny on the AV shelf...lol

Stop it! you make my heart pitter patter with the begonia babies. I have several 'Iron Cross' (one of everyone's favorites next to Escargot) leaves down. So hopefully they'll produce. they all have roots. keeping fingers crossed.

here's the 'mom' (upper right corner, the lower one is Escargot)

Oh, shoot, now I want begonias, too......

I don't grow many of the Rex's but I love Escargot's leaf pattern. Some of the Rex's are so beautiful.

hadfieldp,
You will love begonias and I'm sure come spring there will be plenty of trades and chances to get a few. I used to have hundreds of them but have since added to many other plants to my addiction. I think they are as easy as any plant you could grow.

Hey, I think 'Iron Cross' looks like the leaf of the one that MsC sent me!

I do still have the base of that plant potted up in a mini-terrarium... there still seem to be some healthy roots, but no sprouts, and the last leaf died in November. I think the leaf babies might be my best bet!

'Escargot' is amazing. I'm doing the excited puppy thing just looking at the picture -- Pant, drool.

Here's the begonia I got around Thanksgiving... I have several little divisions potted up in my mini plastic greenhouse in the basement.... so hopefully I'll have a couple to add to trade boxes.

I also have some newly potted cuttings of this angel wing begonia, which roots easily in water.

that first one looks like Chivalry. I have growing in my kitchen window.
Can't say for sure the name of the cane, so many look alike. perhaps one of these? http://members.tripod.com/~PalmHammockOrchidEst/canebeg.html

"I have one growing in my kitchen window."

Shucks, then that means I don't have a cool new begonia to send you! I think 'Chivalry' is the name you thought for it when I first posted a picture.

I've given up on finding a name for the cane begonia... it has distinctly salmon flowers, rather then pink, but it rarely blooms for me (which is fine, as I'm not a fan of salmon or peach colors). A neighbor of mine picked it up when we were browing at our favorite LGS, and then she gave it to me when they moved. The foliage on it is gorgeous!
