Agapanthus

Arlington, TX

Do you grow it? Do you love it? Do you have the sun or shade type?

one last question....would you plant it again?

thanks all

Grow it, love it, buying more today! I have had the most flowers when the roots are crowded. I like the smaller variety, I think it is Peter Pan.

Yes, yes and yes!
I love agapanthus! Grew up w/ them everywhere in California! I love the purple/blue the best and the darker the better, those new ones are gorgeous! I think they do like crowding and not so much water. Peter Pan, in my experience, needs some protection from the hot afternoon sun, all the others I grow in full son.
I would plant it over and over again. This year I will break down and by the darker ones, Elaine is one that I like and that is readily available here.

Ooooh wonderful!

One more question: I have an area that is well drained and gets really hot in the summer. It's a hell strip for sure, and gets Sun from 11am or noon until 6 or 7 pm. Would you plant this there?

I am also in love with that deep blue shade loving one on B&B

thanks again

My agapanthus plants bloomed only the first year I had them. I moved them around to different spots where they a;ways grew fantastically and they never bloomed again. I finally gave up, dug them up and threw them in my "trash" vegetative pile. Years later, I found several small bulbs still alive. I potted them up and they are growing wonderfully, but no blooms. I also tried the dwarf type with the same results. I know that I have been doing sometihng wrong, but I don't know what.

Loveshercowdog, I have the Peter Pans, they are better for the front of the border, the flower stalks on the bigger variety get REALLY tall, but bloom just as well for me.
HTOP, maybe the UBERgardner is giving to much care?? jackie

jackie, thanks for the suggestion as to the problem (which has been the case in many instances LOL). I thought that might be the case in the beginning. I tried using different soil mixtures over the years, Finally, I just left them alone and they still never bloomed.
