If you could only pick 3?

Fellsmere, FL(Zone 9b)

Since I am fairly new to growing brugs and in the process of getting brugs I am wondering,if you could only pick 3 brugs to grow what would they be?

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

For me it would be B. creamsickle, Susanne, Goldenlady

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

for me it would be Isobella, Golden Lady and Milk & Honey. But it was a tough choice.

That is such a difficult question.
I think being new at growing brugs a must to have the first year is a Frosty. Frosty Pink is quite common but blooms really well and tolerates heat also.
While I'm waiting for others to bloom it is usually the first one blooming. It usually has several blooms on it all summer long between flushes.
I don't think I could ever just have three. Only if I moved into an apartment would I ONLY have three...!!! LOL

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

I can only list 2 that I have been super impressed with.

Creamsicle and Dr. Seuss. I know Dr. Seuss is common but hey...it smells great, blooms great and roots easy :)

I have a Milk and Honey baby so I will look forward to seeing how it does.

charlotte :)

Gee, this is tough. I would have to go with some of my seedlings. I have a few I really like. This sounds terrible, but I now see that brugs evolve and what was beautiful to me before, I have found replacements that are them but better!! If you can follow me.

I guess though one that I have had a few years that I really love is Pure Love by Susie French, grown by Tracy Plunk. I just love that brug ad it has held my interest for several years. I have nothing that looks close much less better! It is BIG, broad skirted, white highlighted in gold on the edges and the reverse. I just really love this brug!! It is always entertaining from its huge blimp like buds to its changing color.

what a tough question. i'm a newbie (on my sophomore year now, lol.) and i know i can't pick only 3 brugs. hee-hee.

but i also know that i'm crazy about doubles, and i collect them.

=)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Golden Lady, Versicolor Orange, naturally any that blooms and smells like "Frosty, or Dr. S".

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh I just thought of Arborea. I would have to have that one just for its fragrance. The best smell I have ever smelled.

Corte Madera, CA

see, marilyn? that's why it's such a difficult question.

has to have arborea and sanguinea, too! i'm dying to grow a vulcanicola, but i don't know where to get it yet. perhaps i have to import.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

well gee kell you always have so many we have never seen let alone smell *LOL* no wonder you can't pick 3

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I got mine at Kartuz, Annapet. Though there is a question among a few if his really are Vulcanicola. Oops.....I just looked for you and it seems he has dropped them from his catalogue.

Doris, you will too now that you have seedlings growing.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

I'm still waiting for my favorite 3! I should have lots of blooms this year. So far a seedling I grew out of Firstday X Rosabelle has been my favorite & a white seedling cross that blooms like crazy, those two so far. I'm sure this will change this year! I can't remember off the top of my head this cross but it sure is pretty. Bj

Kell,

Where did you say you got your Arborea?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Rosenquartz, Susanne and a new single pink I'm growing.
Funny, I wasn't impressed with Rosenquartz untill last year. It blooms non stop in heat or cold, lost it's leaves to the cold wind but grew them back fast, forgives me when I don't water, smells great and still has blooms all the time(on a 6ft plant, it will have 100-200 flowers at once and then about 10 days later it will have more).

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

My 3 favorites in FL environment so far are NHE's x candida pink, a Pink Beauty x versicolor peach seedling, and a Rosamond x Maya seedling.

There is no question that Kartuz's vulcanicola is not a true vulcanicola. I sent Dr. Preissel one of your pictures Kell 2- 3 years ago and he said it is probably a x flava and definitely not vulcanicola.
If someone has Dr. Preissels book at hand look up his description of vulcanicola. I believe you will find that the flowers are described as 1 inch long. I think I'm remembering the size correctly. His book is still packed away in box in the garage since I moved here from TN.

GeeSusie, Susanne is blooming for me right now. She tolerates cold and wet well. She is a fast repeat bloomer! Seems to always have blooms. A friend sent me some fancy double pink pollen last week, I am hoping it will take on her. Imagine a huge Susanne like double pink!!

We need a pic of this incredible Rosenquartz, I think I had her but gave her away. Isn't she Frosty like??

Marilyn, I got Arborea as one of my first brugs years ago from Susie. They grow true to seed so that is a good way to get her. Right now I have no ripe seed pods.

I took this pic last night. I take pics of Susanne's pods all the time, I can't help it. She has the prettiest and biggest pods I think of any brug I have. And I have tons of them on her right now.

How old do plants have to be before they produce seeds? I ordered Dr. Seuss, CG, and EP in the spring from Seed Sprout so I guess they aren't very old. A couple of other unnamed brugs are from cuttings.

Kell, I will post a picture from work on Monday, they're stored on my work computer(mucho storage on it, lots of those giga thingies). We are having horrible 50-60 mph winds right now and poor Rosenquartz is being whipped to bits. I knew it would be windy, NHE double peach has a bloom about ready to open! The wind was blowing so hard it made three seed pods fall off where it whipped them around and broke the stem holding the pod.
Rosenquartz doesn't resemble Frosty at all, it's a cross with RK and something. Here is Alice's picture of hers. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/400814/

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

This is a pic of NHE's Rosenquartz tree. It was alot taller than me and had quite a few flowers at the time. This was taken December 23 2002. It is definitely a beauty.

They say the green center is a sign of aurea blood.

It survived the wind! I just looked out at it and there are still some blooms on it. It's chilly this morning, 48*, brrrrrrrrr. My toes are cold. I will take a picture and see if my slow dial-up at home will let me post it.

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

Cala, she's lovely. That does it........now I have to add a Rosenquartz to my Most Wanted List.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

She is pretty but I can't believe I am going to say she is just another very pretty pink! OH MY, I need psychiatric help. LOL

Did you all know that Tracey named Susanne after our very own Susie Susanne French?????

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Yes she does resemble alot of other USA pretty pinks but Rozenquartz came to us before any of the others. I guess we could say the others resemble Rosenquartz ... a Dr. Hans-Georg Preissel hybrid from Germany.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Vicki, what was the cross for Rosenquartz? I can't remember.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

eeney, meeney, miney, mo

Couldn't even do it that way?? Help I need BA.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I didn't get that far in my list of brug parentages Susie. I don't know.

Pontotoc, MS(Zone 7b)

Hey, is there a source for Rosenquartz ? That thing is BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

My favorite three would have to be
1 Butterfly
2 Golden Lady
3 Dr.Suess
I love 1and 2 because of the looks and 3 because it is so dependable. Comes back every year with many blooms and it was my first. 1 and 2 from Delisa and 3 from Susie. Thanks again.
Frosty Pink would also have to be one of my favorites because it blooms all summer long, one flush after another.
