New Sago Palm

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I received a nice package from Lorry the other day, mostly African Violets. She was so kind and sent my DH a beautiful sago palm. Here is what it looks like after I got it all potted up. Thanks Lorry.

that is gorgeous. just watch out for scale. they are notorious for infesting sagos. i love the rocks.

Thanks for the tip about scales. All of my plants live indoors right now. How do the scales get inside? I have also started adding a little bit of Diatameceaous Earth to everything that I pot, even if they are indoor plants. I see the fungus gnats flying around from time to time so I want to make sure they stay away. Will the DE keep the scale away as well? Or do I need something else to keep them away? I have also thought about using the stuff that I used a while back, that keeps insects away for up to a year. I wonder if I could use it everytime I potted something new. That way I would be covered for a year.

i am not sure about sagos indoors getting scale. i know if you look on the underside of leaves and see white spots you will know. maybe because it is inside you could wipe the under side of the leaves with rubbing alcohol everyonce in awhile might do the trick. i think diatomaceous earth works on slugs i'm not sure about scale. i guess it is worht a try.

Our local paper said that the sago (queen and king) are in danger of being wiped out by scale in Florida. What a shame. Karen
