Hap, the Cercis is a deciduous tree and Dirr recommends it to Zone 9 and commented on it growing in Georgia and North Florida. Not sure how it would do in Zone 10b as I don't have any personal experience other than growing it in the Mid Atlantic states. Maybe someone in the Florida forum could answer your question?

How about zone 5-6? Ct.?

My neighbor in MA. on seacoast , so we are zone 6 but with windchills to zone 5, tried a Forest Pansy and it kind of withered away. Is it too cold here? I have two regular cercis canadensis and they are beautiful after 8 years.

troglodyte, supposedly only hardy to Zone 6a (-10 degrees) although Dirr refers to trees that have survived in parts of Ohio (Zone 5). If you could find a spot where it might be a little more protected it's possible you might have better success.

When I lived in Maine, I used to make the trek to Mass. every year to get my "Red Bud Fix" in May - in our Zone 4 gardens we just couldn't grow it. Not a problem in VA, we have them popping up everywhere!
