On the road to Paia and other small towns along the way, I saw the gigantic orchid cactus, trailing off the rock walls along the road....there really wasn't a place to pullover to take a photo of these monstrosities!! I kid you not, this cactus had to be at least, 6' high and about 4' across! , if not bigger. Elaine

Yes, orchid cactus are spectacular in Hawai'i. I remember seeing several huge cactus hedges when visiting Mau'i in 2004. I think I remember reading that it was introduced to the Islands in the 19th century.
