Just a little O/T, but look who's lookin' all pretty

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I worked for a while in my green house today, and here are some goodies that are looking pretty good despite the winter weather.
Planted along my house.

Wild mustard!

We have a month long Mustard Festival coming up!

One of the highlights of the spring time is the entire Napa Valley vineyards swathed in mustard blooms. It's truely amazing. Try a google search for it.

And lastly, Plectranthus, "Iboza" which is taking over! I made LOTS of plectranthus cuttings today for everyone who wants some in the spring.

Oh, the chard is the wizard, it planted itself! They are coming up all over the place! I dont mind and neither do my chickens, I often cut it down and feed it to them. Then I get red eggs. (only kidding, but the occasional double yolker!)

Well they would be good for Easter, but I prefer the old fashioned green ones w/ my ham!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

I hope so because I started planting and pruning, if we end up having a late freeze I know I will kick myself.

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Wow...your plants are beautiful.

Here in Missouri some of the roses are starting to come out of dormacy...and it's just way to early for this to be happening. Not that I don't like it...it's just there most likely will be a cold spell before the winter is over.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

laurie...if you want anymore of that zebra wandering jew...my back yard is like weeds with it....anybody else welcome as well...and the swiss chard so wonderful...and did i hear digitalis...oh to grow foxglove here...and Deb...springtime in Mo is much like TEnn...so beautiful...so east Mo where i lived..unbelievable...and Laurie..meyer lemons here as well...u need some of my ponderosa lemons though...(really citron but known as the lemon pie lemon)...huge in size...my trees are from seeds...produced in 3 years for me..and lovely thorns almost 2 inches....and alas...Roger Swain of Horticulture Mag...pbs etc...took note of my kumquats a few years back ..BUT..hurricanes of 2004...took them by-by...just like a chain saw.........HOWEVER my lowquats (jap plum) are growing like crazy and although few seeds...they are juicy and great!!...bob

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

All of these plants are on Auto-Pilot. I did nothing. They just do this on their own.
Sure feels like spring around here (except for all the rain) but it's only getting down to the low 40's at night, not that dang 28º we had in Dec.
My daffodils, paperwhites and leucojum are in FULL bloom, i should get some shots of them tomorrow.

Tulips are popppin their heads out too.

edited to add Leucojum to the list of bloomin bulbs

sounds good to me

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

plectranthud Does it have a scent Laurie ? Beautiful plants :))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

yes, some do, the one above has a scent, but it's kind of stinky. It is in the 'mint' family but doesn't' have a nice minty smell.
It only really gives off a scent when you cut it, it doesn't smell bad, but it does smell odd.

Anybody else have a better descriptor?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh cool I have "Iboza" growing in my garden. I did not know what it was. But my Aunt gave me a small plant as I really liked the variegation . I can't tell if it smells
minty or garlicy when cut but I really think it's pretty and grows wild but yet compack.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh just adoring the first one! And they are ALL gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing Laurie :)

I just snapped a few photos last night as the sun was going down. I figured it might rain later, and I was right. I'm beginning to think I live in Seattle! Rain almost every day!

Here's rosmarinus officinalis. Which is actually a weed for me. BUT I like weeds like this. When I give it a hair cut each yea, I take it back by at least 2 or 3 feet. It's a big one. (and I have many)

wow you live in the Garden of Eden so pretty !

Here's the other photos, I got way-layed (sp?) doing other things so I didn't post these earlier this morning.

Double white/yellow narcissus. Fun thing about these are, they line my driveway. I used to work at a nursery for like 8 years. Every year in the spring, we'd bring in pots and pots of blooming bulbs, tulips, daffys, narcissus, hyacynth etc, if the blooms started to fade, off to the dumpster they would go. I ended up bringing home hundreds and hundreds of pots of bulbs. DH planted them all along our driveway (300 yards long) under 'his' roses (also dumpster plants! When bare-root season was over, any 'funky' roses went into the dumpster, I got like 40! and they line the fence along our driveway)

Anyway, long story, the neighbor who is on the other side of the driveway/fence had his vineyard workers spray round-up along the fence for weeds, guess what it did to my bulbs! He offered to replace them, but I just said no, they were free. That was about 6 years ago. They have only come up and no floweres since then, only foliage. This year, they must have had enough time to recover, because I have a lot of blooms!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Beautiful ! Thanks for sharing :))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

ooh! I showed DH (daffs are his fave), and now we're both having serious zone envy! But it was nice & mild again today, so that helped, LOL.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Laurie u have so many pretty plants . Thanks for all the Begoinia I got today ! I am so excited I've wanted more :)) And one gets 2-3 ft, WOW DO you have a picture of it?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Was that Digswelliana? I can't remember who I sent. I just grabbed who looked good. Oh yea, now I remember, 'Irene Nuss'. I sent. b scharffeana, red round fuzzy leaves. That one is a rhizo. I sent a b. richmondensis (another prolific bloomer) and a pink version of your 'birthday' begonia that is red (wel, it's not a true red-red but a dark dark pink red) this new one is really pink

she's like the queen. Blooms all the time and they are big clusters like a bunch of grapes.

Oh my gosh beautiful all of them. I never knew there were so many different Begonias ! I have the red one you already know now pink from you ! We keep wanting to take cuttings from our red one and make new plants we love it so we need to do it. Days fly by so fast.
It has never stopped being full of blooms.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

yes, mine is blooming in my greenhouse, it has not stopped since I brought it inside late fall. so many are blooming and pushing new leaves. I took about 100 photos this morning, I'll try to post some later.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Amazing . Do you just grow them for hobby and enjoyment or do you sell from your Greenhouse ?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I've sold a few but mostly grow to feed my own addiction. I've traded some nice ones since joining Daves. I've had a nice trade with another begonia nut who has a lovely collection. We'll trade again soon in FL.

I've contemplated growing as a profession or side profession like some of these folks do on Ebay etc. And it's tempting!

My greenhouse is like my sanctuary, my 'church' if you will. (not to be sacrilegious, but it is a place I find great peace) I propagate something every time I go out there. I've run out of room. DH offered to build me another. But I can't decide what I want to do. another greenhouse means that much more time to spend and I'm pretty busy now that I've been lured into the AV and Gessie world!

here's one of the benches this morning. you can see, it's loaded
