Does anyone grow mangos from seed ? If so how. John

Buy a nice really ripe mango, remove the pit (Large flat seed) and plant on edge not flat, just completely covered. wait a LOOOONG time and presto..a mango tree.

Then again, if you live in Florida and HAVE a Mango tree, you will usually have MANY little mango volunteers. It doesn't take long at all actually.
I am not sure (as is the case with some other fruit trees) whether the ones that are grown from seed give good fruit.

Carr...
Well in waiting a long time I'd always find it had rotted... so for years when ever I've thought I wanted a mango tree.. [ now I'm not sure just where that thought comes from.. I do know they can reach 60' and are quite tropical ] So when this thought comes over me .. I get a large ripe mango.. peal and enjoy the pulp.. I then take the inner pit after chewing all of the pulp.. wash and dry it to keep less slipery..I then take a very sharp large knife... and slit the pit along three sides.. along the thin egde ... not very deep... but enough to pry of the husk of the pit exposing the large seed inside ... this I plant in a pot with the seed a few inches below the soil. I start it flat or sloped slightly...as that is how I'd imagine them to land in nature..keep it moist and warm... you'll have a sprout from the seed in short order .. I started one last summer and it's about a 16" treelet now with 4 limbs.. Gordon

Gordonhawk, they grow here and a 50-60 ft mango tree loaded with fruit is a beautiful site! I love mango with chilli powder and lime.

Calalily..
I've never thought of chili power and lime for them... I'll give it a try...
My personal favorite is to take the mango sliced off the pit.. placed in a blender with perhaps 1/2 a habanero pepper... or more but try 1/4 to 1/2 first... then you can move up to one or two...
this is placed on grilling fish or whathave you... absolutely the best sauce...
and after dinner .. the mango pepper sauce is OH SO GOOD .. as a topping for the Haagen Das Vanilla Ice Cream... as dairy is one of the few things that will break the heat of peppers... it's not nearly as hot as on the grilled fish... you get the hot... you get the cold..cold.. hot..sweet all at the same time... really an all around sauce...
to any that haven't tasted the hot ice cream... don't miss out on the new taste ..you'll read all about it in the magazines real soon...

Gordon, I have fresh fish from a friend and I'll have to try it with the mango sauce. Mangos are in season now and are cheap.(.25-.35 each) We can buy mango salsa at the grocery store and some of the little stands sell it.
Have you tried candied jalapeno peppers? They're so good with cream cheeze and crackers.
