Well, hi everyone! :)
I was just cruising around the forums and happened to see my name -- how nice, and thank you! Makes a newcomer feel very welcome.
Last summer was my very first year gardening. Never had an interest before, but sitting in front of a computer for 8+ hours a day made me yearn to do something outdoors and since our yard was pretty much barren, gardening seemed like a good a fit.
We started out by putting 2 raised vegetable beds (square foot gardens) in the backyard last year and we planted a huge flower garden in front. We also installed a flagstone path (in the killer heat of August) and killed all the grass and put in an eco-lawn. I've started my winter-sowing and have gotten tons of books from the library on landscaping. My current focus is on the backyard. I am currently struggling with the concepts of garden rooms, hardscaping, and how to gain privacy from the 4 neighbors who can look down from their decks right into our yard. (I'm thinking of making BIG trellises and growing fast growing vines.) And of course, there's always the challenge of working within a budget :) I have yet to venture into seed trading, but I'd like to learn the ins and outs... seems like a great way to connect with other gardeners.
I have a blog if anyone's interested in peeking: http://spaces.msn.com/krystinesblog/
Thank you again for welcoming me! :)

Welcome Krystine!
It sure looks like you have been busy, I like the Idea of the low water front yard it sure makes watering inexpensive and leaves any extra water for a pot or two for extra color. I did somthing similar last year but I've used a dry stream bed . Its great to look at other folks ideas.
Talk to you soon.

Welcome Krystine. Go look at Sanannies pix to see some of the great structures she has made. Thensome quick growing vines - pole beans for some privacy.
The small very early blooming clematis will form a good barrier in a couple of years.

Hi Krystine in 'Canada's Tornado Alley'! I live just outside Ottawa.
Enjoyed your blog. Where did you buy your eco-lawn seed from? If you still want some seeds, you are welcome to some leftover seeds I have, mostly annuals. Just D-Mail me.

Hi Krystine, Welcome to DG.

Wow :) Thanks everyone!
I took a peek at Sanannie's pics... holy cow!!! Her garden is beautiful! And her structures are awesome! I may have to see if I have that kind of creativity in me!
I bought my eco-lawn seed from Wild Flower Farm: http://admin.wildflowerfarm.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=1&Category_Code=E
Before I bought it, I went and visited a 1 acre property nearby that had planted it. I was impressed with how soft it was and that they never watered it. Looked beautiful and was very green! I hope it does as well on my lawn.
Thank you again for all your welcomes :)
Kristine :)
Kristine - thanks for the compliment and the info on the eco-lawn. Glad to know they are an Ontario company. I have a trouble spot over my septic bed that's very sandy and dry and the lawn is always very patchy. Do you think the eco-lawn seed could be used for over-seeding a lawn - or would it be best to redo the whole area?
Sandy
Hi Sandy,
I know that people have overseeded with it, with the (very) long-term goal of eliminating their grass, so I'm sure it can be done. (According to my research, their fescue mix isn't aggressive, so it won't take over your lawn). You might want to give them a call and see what they have to say?
Hi krystine and welcome, enjoy! Dawn
