Familiar with Floral & Hardy Gardens?

Another good site to check out if you are into Daylilies, Hostas and Heuchera.

Looks like a great spot - I'll be ordering some of those heucheras!

Have you ordered anything from them Don? Is this a personal recommendation, as I can't seem to find them in the watchdog?

Can't say it's a personal recommendation. They send me e-mails from time to time. Wondered if anyone else has had any experience with them.

I just ordered a few this past week, the lady was very nice to deal with, free shipping this year - this place used to be Crescent Nursery, and when sold, changed names, according to the website info.

I'll let you all know what my plants are like when they arrive - good prices, and good selection, though!

Edited because I'm an airhead, and put the wrong "before" name in!

Although I haven't had personal experience ordering from them, I understand they have also taken over Crescent Nursery and purchased much of their stock. A hosta friend told me that Crescent Nursery always had cheaper prices but their plants were smaller in sizes when you receive them. But Floral & Hardy are different people, so I can't make a judgement until I try them myself.

So I'm going to place a small order this year. Their prices seem very reasonable and they are offering a 15% discount if you order before March 4th, as well as free shipping. Who can resist that? Certainly not a hosta-heuchera-daylily addict like me! LOL

Sandy

I sure hope they are good. I had high hopes for Crescent, but the year I ordered form them, I wasn't too happy. We were shorted some heucheras and of the few that came two didn't last the season for me. I think I lost the other the next summer. I have quite a few from other places, even Monet has lasted a few seasons for me. So I don't think it's my growing conditions at fault. But anyway, this is a new company.

I am so hesitant about daylilies. I have been preparing to order from a couple of places, maybe Red Lane and Beachwood. I wasn't planning on ordering 'Canadian Border Patrol', but it is a popular one that many companies carry. Look at their picture. That is not what it is supposed to look like, unless you expect a poorer quality TC. http://www.floralandhardy.ca/3_list.htm Maybe it's not their photo?

I really noticed this from seeing it at Oakes. http://www.oakesdaylilies.com/supplier/searchresults.php?id=s000&desc=Canadian+Border+patrol

and then here at AHS 200 awards

Hmm what to do...

Well in the end I ordered from them. Can't wait.

I asked before ordering, sent an email, and was told they are very much against TC Daylilies, and will never sell them

I think a lot of the pics are old ones from the Crescent site, maybe?
Having said that, I haven't got my DL yet, so can't say one way or the other.

I ordered from Beachwood last year, as did my friend, and they were absolutely humungous double fans, looked like leeks from the grocery store, just beautiful, and they took off like crazy, even though they were planted so late - mid July. I've heard great things about them.

Good luck!

echoes,

I'm a bit leary of the cheap prices when it comes to daylillies too, after purchasing an Edge of Darkness for a song at a big box store, but it looked nothing like it was supposed to! Grrrrr.

Talking about the colours differences, though, reminded me of a picture I posted awhile back of a daylily taken at two different times of day, showing the differences of colour. It could be the reason F&H's pic looks a different colour. Their pic of Canadian Border Patrol has the eye and the edge that its supposed to - it's just lighter in colour, and that could possibly be explained by the lighting?

Nice picture, Sandy, I've ordered that one for spring - it's amazing how different it looks - like 2 daylilies, not the same one - is it a good grower for you?

2zeus,
yes it is has increased really quickly for me.

Excellent to hear that - I love the colours, and the shape of the eye on that one.

I have visions of great lush clumps of daylilies around my yard - give or take a few years...
