Some of my very first plants

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Some of my very first plants I bought them at our African violet show. I got a discount and got mini's blooming ( with suckers :)) ) for $ 2.00 each with my memeber discount ! And large 4 and 6 inch pots blooming for $ 3.00. I bought ever Miniature they had x's two. As my husband had , had a heart attack and bad back and could not get me into the van . I wanted to go so bad so my brother-in-law came to get me in and my 300 pound wheel chair . He loves and grows African violets so I bought him one of each one I got myself !

I had a plant or two from WalMart years ago. My first plants from an AV seller came from Bluebird Nursery last fall. It's funny, they have not fared so well. The ones from Rob's and the ones from EBAY and from Allison are all doing better. I am wondering if the ones from Bluebird are in pots that are too big. I have noticed the bigger the pot, the slower everything goes, growth, flowers......anyway, my first really successful ones are from Robs....macho devil, thunder surprise, heat wave. The EBAY ones are Allegro Mabel Joy and Little Pro, Little Axel, and all of Allison's are doing well. Three are starting to bloom. : )

WOW awesome. Yes pots too large slow growth sometimes slow death :((
Happy yuor plants are doing well !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

My first AV's were when I first moved out of my parent's house and into an apartment. They were your basic noids from a local nursery. Anyway, I always had blooms on my plants and my mother couldn't figure out why her's never did. This now meant that I would give her mine and she would give me hers to get them to bloom. Needless to say, I didn't always get to enjoy the flowers! :0

One thing I definitely miss about that apartment was the big, huge window in the living room and it was always so bright!

I give my Mom blooming plants and she give me them back when they stop blooming too !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, I love all of those! Thanks for sharing your pictures.... Those "firsts" that start off a collection are always extra special!

I think that's one of the reasons I like my "Big Blue noid" so much! (Also, it's proven to be tough, widely adaptable, and nearly ever-blooming, so it's often the one I give to people who don't think they can grow AVs!)

I had AVs back in high school, but this is the one that started off my current collection!
(Yeah, I know most of you have seen this photo before, LOL!)

These are LOVELY Allison.
My first plants were strawberry daquiri and heavenly reflections I believe.

Unless you include my NoIDs..they are what got me hooked!

Jill, if you ever have leaves or plantlets to share of your Big Blue noid, I'd love to have one. It is simply gorgeous!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

RG, you're in luck... I surveyed my propagation trays last night, and I've got at least 5 plantlets coming up in leaf pots and 3 newly potted suckers! It's already on your wish list in my trade tracker, as I remember you said you were looking for blue AVs. I also have you down for 'Kingwood Blue' and "Blue TLV noid," but those leaf pots don't have ears yet... Not to worry, we'll find something else you'll like, and with any luck I can at least send you leaves of those.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW Jill your babies are doing super great ! I feel like my babies grew so much better this winter thant last. It must be all you cheery the babies on !

Woohoo, Jill! That sounds wonderful! Surely I'll have something you'd like in return, with all the leaves Allison and Lorry have sent me. And I'll have the AVs that I bought from Jack, too.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm also more than willing to trade AV's for other plants, especially sun-loving perennials!

I have lots of seeds, so I could either trade you for seeds or get the seeds started now so they'd be plants to send to you.. You can let me know which you'd prefer, and if there is anything you're particularly looking for in perennials, let me know that, too, and maybe I'll have it. I love trading! :o)

RG, you've got Dmail!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Do you think we could create a thread just for wish lists? Or is there one already? Then we could reference it - once something was obtained from that list then the poster could edit it off?

What does everyone think?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yeah I wish it could be stuck like a sticky so we can find it. Or the link maybe put in the sticky.
I am willing to ship plants for shipping and handling.
And a few trades already set up.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow those are just gorgeous! I love Definitely Darryl (7474) 01/18/1991 (H. Pittman) but wow I am drooling over Rob's Jitterbug! WOW! My 1st that started this collection was the huge noid that I already showed photo of- I did cut some of the plant and potted it; it's doing well.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

I think that's a great Idea!
