Anita,
I would love to have one!! Let me know about postage.

Since I am new to this - I've seen the directions on Rachel's website - I'll rely on the honor system. Just send me the postage amount when you receive them. I've checked the weather and it's supposed to be 40's during the day and 30's at night. I think that might be too cold? I'll make a list and wait until warmer weather? What do you two think?

Anita
If you ship them now without insulation and heat packs they will freeze. I would wait,
When I ship leaves I water plant at least 2-3 days before cutting, making sure plant is clean leaves washed. I cut the stems long as possible so people can cut the length the prefer. I never wrap the bottom as I have got a lot of mush when people did this.
Just magiic marker name on zip lock or small new/clean sandwich baggies. Never re-use can carry insect./ virus and so on. Put dry clean leaves in baggie. Blow just a bit of air not much you don't want the leaf to move around and get damaged. I sometimes put the leaves into styrofoma cups. Shredded news paper, peanuts, insulation to cushion the leaves and for insulation. When it's real cold I use think pink insulation, when it real hot I do also.
Also important make sure nothing in the box can move around when shipping leaves or plants. Sticky has lots of info and pictures on packing :))

I have not forgot pictures for cards and a box of goodies for you ! I've been playing catch up so many babies to trans plant. I will send you pics next week but goodie box may take couple weeks boxs before you !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

You take your time Allison - I am so tickled that you are making me a box!!! Besides, I think it's too cold yet to ship to me. I think February will hold a rude awakening as we have been spoiled with this very warm January!

I love Fantasy too. Now if it were variegated - I'd be in heaven. Add a mini to the mix ...woohoo!! I even bought myself a new stand for the living room, just so I would have more room! I'll have to get a picture of that setup tomorrow

Allison,

What is the name of the AF pictured above. I think it is beautiful. I just have to have one of those.

I have babies. A non-stop bloomer :))

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I added it to my list too Jesse - It really is beautiful. My list is getting quite long - that's the problem when you don't have alot. Before I found this forum, I was limited to what a local nursery had, which were your basic pinks/purples and an occasional white [not up to snuff on proper terminology - that might take awhile yet].

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Anita I'm sure I have one for you too ! I love Fantasy blossoms :))

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

yipee!! I think they are so cool!!! The biology behind it has me amazed - the color combinations!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes it really is special.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Here is the new setup in my living room...of course I've changed things around again since I've taken the picture..

Lovely! That's a very cool cactus on the top shelf. And you know my eye went right to that little violet on the second shelf.... beautiful crisp variegation on those leaves!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I love window gardens :)) We have had this big Spider plant in a tree all year all winter even threw the hurricanes. lol We had it hanging on a shepards hook for awhile but it got so heavy .

Critter - that violet is Hector..let me know if you want any leaves...

I love spider plants - that is one thing I can now grow that I don't have cats anymore - Midnite used to eat down to the nub..

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, please! Oh, you & I are going to have fun putting together a spring trade!

Since we're on the topic, check out the curly spider plant I got as a trade baby... It's thrown lots of spiders, and I'll bet it can spare one or two by spring!

I've got to take a new picture... this one is from October, and it's even cuter now!

what a beauty!! How do you keep your leaves from not getting brown tips?

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I have that same spider plant but mine has never given me any babies. Is there something that I can do to help it grow better and produce some babies?

JesseK

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I think age plays a part - they also like to be cramped in their pot - I believe.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think humidity and not over watering helps keep brown tips off

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I think you are right Allison - I also just read that tap water contains elements that cause that too - they suggest rain water. I'll try to remember to also pull my dehumidifier water. Sometimes I cheat, 'cause it's easier than running downstairs and filling the watering can up.

tsk,tsk on me..

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm pretty sure they don't start throwing spiders until they've filled their pots with roots. I've got some that I potted up into big hanging containers months ago... they're getting nice & full, but no spiders yet. I had this curly one (from two babies) in an 8 inch basket for I think about 5 months before it threw the spiders in the picture. On the other hand, a spider that I potted into a little 8 oz container for my mom started throwing spiders within a couple of months. So, you might try repotting your plant into a smaller pot... or just continue being patient! ;-)

My spider plants get whatever is left in the jug when I'm done watering my AVs... they seem to appreciate the occasional bit of fertilizer. The only plants that get babied with filtered water around here are the orchids, not that they express their gratitude by blooming or even by surviving, LOL.

Anita, I can't explain the lack of brown tips on this one.... my other spider plants all get them from time to time!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

ours is outside year round and rarely gets brown tips,
it gets rain and hose water , We take some babies and plant them in the ground :))

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I would love a leaf or two to put down, if you have enough to share..thanks for the offer
