I was wondering if most of you use wicking or do you water the plants yourself? If so, do you use wicking for grown up plants or when setting up new leaves? And do you always use something like perlite or vermiculite in your soil or only when setting up new leaves? I'm sorry to ask so many questions but I want to make sure that I start out right so that all of my babies will have the best chance of survival.

Wicking
There's a link from the Sticky to a wicking thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/541027/
Some years I wick and other years not. I am thinking about wicking again this year.
I set up babies for wicking only after the leaf has rooted.
I use Perilite always. I use the same soil for everything. I don't wick leaves anymore but do wick all plants. Even large some get two wicks. Soil must always be light for wicking. I find Miniatures grow super well wicked. All plants do well for me.
I like the self watering pots.
I bought a whole bunch of fancy ones in the begining. But when I joined local group I stopped using. I gave most away. Now I pot up all plants in proper plastic size pots , wicked and sometimes use 2 piece pots to sit them in them for display beauty only. One of the large ones without top can fit a 5 inch pan pot perfect :)) You can't show in them, there's no drainage so I learned they were best for display .
I have a hard time with the self water pots..My AVs are always too wet no matter how light I make the soil
I use a sprayer and pop it underneath the leaves and top water mine.
That's a neat way Lorry.
I like is Allison and it gives me the time to check them for old leaves and such.
I bought a sprayer at HD for 10.00...it fits under the leaves very nicely :) and works well for me :)
I think it is a matter of what works best for you :)
Do you do each plant this method. ?
Yes :) and it is for far..working well for me..it goes pretty quickly too since the long hose easily slips beneath the leaves :)
That's neat. I water from bottom or fill little cups and pour it in .
If I don't have a self-watering pot available - I water from the bottom too. Let them drink their fill and then discard the rest.
