Oh! I love mondo grass. I planted some last summer and it seems to be surviving our winter. I would like to get some more. My tradelist is still rather incomplete so I'll d-mail you some of the things I have.
Hi,
I make freshwater pearl jewerly with sterling silver clasps. Also glass jewerly, some with cute glass lady bugs. I would like to trade for some of your extra perennial plants to fill my new big yard. zone5 especially lilly hosta and iris
ardesia that was so pretty. and if you ever get the right garden spot you know where to get your plant supply. hahaha
Is yours black mondo grass? I have autumn joy sedum, everbearing strawberry, blackberry, and sword fern.
it is not black. everGREEN. gets 12-15 inches tall. how many of those strawberries do you have? barb
I have quite a few strawberries, we could trade 1lb or 2lb boxes. Interested?
well yes i would be. but i want you to know that i DETEST digging this grass and getting it ready to go. yuk! yuk! yuk! now i feel better. hahahaha i just got some ready for a lady in calif. today so it's still fresh on my mind. tomorrow i will go and dig and wash. i have been wanting strawberry plants but could not believe the price.............at walmart over 2 dollars for one plant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i had meant to mail order some but just never got around to it. is your blackberry thornless by the way? if you have one of those handy let me know. now i am going to the post office and get this grass weighed and that will give me some idea of how much grass we're talking. i'll get back to you tonight. what kind of strawberries are they? i wish strawberries would live here. we all love them so. thank you for offering them.
Mine are everbearing strawberries, so they produce a smaller crop the whole summer, rather than one large crop in june. my blackberry isn't thornless unfortunately, but is the wild kind in this area. Makes great eating though.
i wrote you a dmail. let me know if you didn't get it because i am asking about when to send this grass. barb
Is mondo grass hearty in zone 5? I have a couple 5' mounding fountain grasses and other plants. check my trade list to see.
smiles, rachel
you know rachel i don't know. i just sent some to nevada a few weeks back and it grew for her but i don't remember her zone. i looked mondo grass up on the plant files here and someone grows it in wilkes barre, pa., fairport, n.y. and in cincinnati. i don't know where any of those places are in relation to you. this grass gets to be about 12-15 inches tall here in the shade. and can you look your grass up in the plant files so i can see what it looks like? i would like to trade if you are interested. what color is your grass and what color seed heads? i looked up miscanthus sinensis undine an there were 8-10 pages of grass so didn't know which you had. thanks and lmk. barb
turns out it is too cold for mondo grass in Indianapolis. Do you have other zone 5 grasses or bulbs? the undine is a 5' mounding fountian grass. It is round with pinkish red feathers. the other is 5' tall vase shapped green grass with white ribs and tan feathers. I have dormate root clumps available now.
Rachel
rachel all i have right now is muscari. i have crocosmia........does that live where you are? i don't have any more grasses. i have daffodils and paperwhites. unnamed mixed bearded iris? i have over 400 named iris but i just started growing those and don't have any to trade right now. i don't have a clue what grows in zone 5a. i have a friend who knows plants better than me and i will ask her and then see if i have something for you. i'll get back to you. barb
Hi Barb,
I am interested in some daffodils and iris. Right now I have clematis ternifora sweet autumn, hydrangea hydrangeaceae arborescens, miscanthus sinensis undine, pink peony.
HAHAHAHAH I finally got to use all those scientific names!
Now in terms I can understand. I have a good fence vine with lots of little white flowers-clematis. a plant whoes flowers look like white snowballs-hygrangea. a beautiful 5 foot round mounding grass with pinkish red feathers-miscanthus. also another 5 foot vase shaped green, white ribed 5foot grass with tan feathers.
Rachel
how does this sound...........dozen daffs and a dozen iris. i could throw in a doz. spider lily bulbs and you might have to grow these in a pot. are you interested in a crown of thorns for a house plant? i have cuttings that are not rooted yet. i am interested in your tall grasses, esp. the pink and your hydrangea. do you have cuttings or rooted plants? can you name for me what you know grows outside where you are? what have you seen? if this sounds good let me know. i can give you more or less of any of the things i mentioned. so just tell me. i know what you mean about the scientific names. and i used to make fun of it but it's the only way really to be sure of what you are getting because depending on where you live people call things such different things. when i dig these daffs i am going to leave their green tops on. i will wash and dry but just leave the tops. if you put some bone meal on these spider lilies they might bloom in a pot. i have never seen them growing that way but they are surprisinly easy to grow.
