Hi!
Here's Brownie on one of my "inspirations" of a dog bed.
I have tons of old sheets and towels, plus a few well worn pillows, that have been taking up a lot of closet space. My dogs, Brownie (50 lbs.) and Hannah (38 lbs.) each have their own separate dog beds to avoid territorial disputes...and since there are 2 floors in the house, wood floors everywhere, and many rooms where we hang out, a lot of dog beds are really good to have.
Nice dog beds (relaxation and nap nests), can be very costly and may be filled with unwashable stuffing. Also, Brownie loves to "discover" polyester and chew a nice huge hole to get at it. Sooooooooooo, I piled all my stuff-that-clutters the linen closet, plus some worn and/or torn clothes, made a lovely pile of them, then took a twin size sheet and/or old tableclothes (and even new sheets and tableclothes), tied one around the pile and knotted it on the bottom: a brand new dog bed!!! They're easy to shape to fit into any space, or I can make it huge. When necessary, just untie, throw it all in the wash, and then retie. It's also easy to vacuum them off so they don't have to be washed too often...a sticky dog hair remover for clothes also works well.
The dogs love them because they're really soft and conform to their furry forms. If you have a larger or smaller dog, you can use larger or smaller sheets or table clothes. And I can match the beds to whatever room decor the beds are in. The price is right, the possibilities are endless...I've even used old duvet covers and stuffed them with old clothes, pillows, linens, etc. and they look and feel great on the outside.
It's a great way to have new and numerous dog beds, and recycle unused, old, torn, bored-with, etc. bedding, towels, wahable old rugs, washable sweater (probably even old washable coats and jacket) and soft toy items too :-)
Have FUN!
Lila
