They say what happens here in California is soon copied thru out the country........... so take heart. My first daff bloom, a heralding of SPRING!!! It is coming .....................
There is hope!!!
woo-hoo! mine is threatening to bloom as well.
pretty one, kell. this beauty got a name?
Oh wow, but have my doubts? Everything is coming up and getting buds. Did that last year in Jan/Feb. then got frozen, had no fruit(blackberries), tulips got frozen, no blooms.
Only a month and a half to go, then we are "home free". I hope!
Beautiful pic!

WOW Kin, what a great display that will be!!! I think they are so cheerful esp after a dreary winter. I wish tulips would do well here. Do have any of those?
wowee! can't wait to see those bloom, kin!
By the looks of them they should start opening up in several weeks. I will get a pic when they do.
I usually cut them and take a big bunch into work for the Foster Grandparents to enjoy. Sometimes I put red food coloring into the water and watch them turn RED.
Tulips Ahhh yes I have a few of them around. I saw a few just breaking ground yesterday.
Even my little Stinkers are showing up.
Drac.Vulgaris
Now they give a new meaning to Fragrance!!! LOL
kin, i have some tulips, too. i planted new ones, and the ones from last year are coming back. i had accepted in my heart that they are annuals here. lol. how far apart did you plant your narcs? thanks.
You can turn daffs red? I must try that. Too funny!!
Oh Kin, I had forgotten that I bought a little stinker last year after seeing yours! Remember? I sure hope I didn't toss the pot thinking it was just dirt. Yours look so neat emerging.
Annapet, did you keep your tulips in the refrigerator for 6 weeks before you planted them? I did last year but along with my amaryllis, my husband was not happy so this year I didn't bother with them.
(i think kell will try to make them PINK). wild guess.
kell, i received those bulbs as 2004 b-day gifts (i didn't even garden then). they stayed in the garage where it's cool. i discovered dave's december, and stumbled on the bulbs jan 2005 - - - growing. hee-hee. they all bloomed as early as march.
these tulips are at least 8" across.
Gosh, your garage must be cold! LOL. Just beautiful, Annapet. I love tulips. I remember them en masse growing up in NJ! I bet once you saw those bloom, you were hooked on gardening. Bulbs are such instant gratification. You plant them, forget about them and then one day they seem to appear over night with incredible color and form.
Ok, lets have a daff coloring contest. LOL. I will go for pink too!!! But of course. LOL
oh, yeah. it's a different zone in there. lol.
well, it's not raining anymore, so i'm going out to plant em daffs.
btw, can i reuse soil from pots? what do i have to do to make them cool again from growing stuff? thanks!
I noticed that I have ground orchids breaking through today. I always watch for the Robins. Once I see them, I know Spring isn't far away.
What are ground orchids, Patrica?
Do you hear any robins yet??
Kin, which do you put in red food coloring: narcs or daffs? I bet that is pretty. If daffs, are they white to begin with?
pics of ground orchids, pls
Those are Daffs. and they were here when I moved in 6 years ago. But, When I plant them I usually plant in groups of 5.
I put the food coloring in the daffs. They don't turn completly red but take on a lot of color. Just make sure you use quite a bit of food coloring. Start with small amount of water the first two hours. Then add more water to the container.
Gosh Kell I hope you didn't throw out your little stinker!!
Ground orchids sound pretty!! Do you have a picture of them, Patricia?
Zone 10 can grow tulips and daffs?? I really miss my spring bulbs.
I haven't checked on the Daffs yet, but the Iris are growing like crazy. The Pussy Willow is covered with fuzzy little kittens. Spring can't be toooooo far away.
Betty
Kin, Similar, ours are white and don't have tails. Would you save me some seeds from your tailed ones??? LOL
Vossner, aren't we talking about dyeing yellow daffs red?? LOL. Am I lost again?
I bet you could grow daffs Susie, but your fridge would need to be full of tulips for 6 weeks to get them to bloom! How about Dutch Iris??
Too funny, Kin. And toooo purrrrrrrrrfect. Did you just happen to have that just waiting for Picabo? LOL
LOL edited to steal purrrrfect from Kin!

That was too cute!
sorry, I think I confused everyone with my own confusion. daffs in red dye. I'm with ya.
very interesting, I'd like to try it since it looks like I might have daffs and/or narcs this year.
Cala, I planted daffs which I didn't chill. I planted tulips, which I did chill for 8 weeks and planted in early Jan. Peeking out right now. Since I don't expect they will come back for me, I only bought a handful to put in a pot. Too expensive to buy hundreds for a 1 season thrill.
pussywillow: very cute, Kin.
I just bought some Dutch iris, it said you could plant them in the spring. I will have to give the tulips a try this fall, they sell the bulbs here but I haven't noticed any blooming anywhere.
The pussywillow is cute!
Hi Kell nice looking daf here in upstate NY it will be awhile although january haS BEEN 10 degrees above normal. i love spring i have between tulips and daffidills in the yard around 2500, so it will be a sight this spring. We are concerned for a lot of the flowering shrubs and fruit trees their buds are swelling which is bad, we can have brutal february around here it has gone down to 25 below zero with blizard conditions so we are not out of the woods yet. Bob
Wow Annapet, it is not red yet!! LOL
Bob, 2500 bulbs!! Amazing. I hope you will show us photos when they bloom. You are right, what a sight! I do not know how you can stand that cold.
oh, that's right! i've never used food coloring other than annatto powder for curries....hmnnn....lemme see.
wowee, lali. girl, i haven't seen you in a while. glad you stopped by. though about you when i saw the begonias at costco.
Oh I read just about every day, just don't post. I'll pipe up more often! I have a lot to say, just not a lot about brugs. BUT I love reading all that you all offer!
and to stay on Brug topic, my Dr. Seuss is blooming and throwing more buds.
All my Brugs are towering over me in the greenhouse now. I need to give them a little TLC. I can't hardly maneuver due to the growth in there!
Speaking of turning the daffodils red reminds me of my school years when we would put them in our ink bottles (boy, does that date me!) and the blue came up through the veins of yellow and looked amazing to us in grade school.
Louise
LOL Louise, that would look amazing to me too!
What pretty narcissus, Lali. I do not think I have seen that one before. We do miss you here, but I see you in Begonias and African Violets. You are a busy lady!
Kin, your spring is coming up PINK!!! LOL. I love it. I am so sick of rain here too. Another gloomy day! The only thing that makes it OK is that as soon as the sun comes up I am in trouble for I haven't done the basics yet in my new rose garden to be able to plant. Mainly moving 100 brugs that are in pots there to somewhere else. HELP!!
Whoa! That's kewl, Kin!!
Barb
