Ordering AVs

Alison suggested we post what we're planning to buy in case someone has extras to share. So, I'm getting ready to order 10 plants and here's what I've picked out (more than 10, I know, but I'm still narrowing the list). I'll probably order them tonight or tomorrow morning.

I do have 'Rob's Outer Orbit' babies started, which is a little like 'Rob's Hallucination'. And I think Lorry has leaves down of 'Kid Karla'.

I have extra Lollipop kid :)) hey it's a kid !

Oh I simply must have a Rob's Slap Happy! I don't know how I missed seeing that one! That's what my husband calls anyone whose name he doesn't know, like someone who strikes up a conversation with him in a store and won't quit talking. LOL I've always gotten the biggest kick out of that name.

Rob's Outer Orbit is on my wishlist! :o) That's why I'm going to buy plants, so I'll at least have some leaves to trade. I did notice that two of the Optimaras I posted pics of the other day each have a baby, or at least what looks like a baby to me. I'm going to try to get them repotted tomorrow, so I'll take a closer look then. I'd love it if they were big enough to separate from Mom. :o)

Even if they're just little suckers without roots, you can separate them and pot them up. Take a look at the directions that Rob gives for re-rooting a crown and do it like that, but put it in a thumbprint pot if it's tiny.

These are suckers I took from a crowded pot of 'Midget Gumdrop'. They went into little 1 1/2 inch pots and are doing great.

And here are some much smaller suckers that went into thumbprint pots. Most rooted within a couple of weeks, but I think it'll be a while before they take off & start growing.

Oh yes they do look yummy ! I just love those midgets. I have a Midget Lilian even growing in a one inch pot. So cute !

Thank you for the pictures, critter. I'll check Rob's for the crown information, and seems like I remember you posting a thread with pictures of you taking a crown cutting. Wasn't that you? I'll go look for it. Gotta get some thumbprint pots, too. So the 3 oz solos are too big for the tiny ones?

allison me as well...i will certainly put down leaves to share....i am being drawn more to the streps and episcias...which i like as well....

I've been putting tiny suckers and smaller leaf cuttings into 1 inch plastic condiment cups with a hole in the bottom for drainage. Those are some very nice ones, Bob! I'm glad you're putting down leaves. :o) I've experienced a recent pull toward Chiritas. Funny how one thing just leads to another, isn't it?

No hurry, Allison! Whenever you get to it is fine. Funny Bunny and Pat Champagne that you sent me have several buds getting ready to open. They're so pretty! I went to the local antique store the other day looking for teapots or teacups to set them in. They didn't have any that would work, but I found a couple sets of simple, clear juice glasses that are the perfect size for solo cups and 2 inch pots. I've got some colored stones to put in the bottom of them to dress them up. They're not fancy like the teapots I've seen some minis in, but I think simple is nice, too.

critter, that is the link that I was thinking of. I thought that was you I remembered working on the trailer. I'll refer to it tomorrow when I repot the Optimaras. Thank you for posting the link to it! :o)

Allison, or anyone else who knows, is Bluebird shipping now? About how long does it take to receive a package from them? They have a couple or more of the ones I'd really like, so I was just curious.

Oh, I thought you were happy with Bluebird. Well, that makes me rethink ordering from them if you're not. I was going to get Mac's Rouges Rouge, Mac's Southern Springtime (a leaf, because that's all they have, but it is one of my most wanted), Mac's Willow the Wisp, whichever two standards that I determined to be the truest blue, their Collection of 6 Minis special, Ellie Gardner, and Fairy Fountains.

Mosaique is gorgeous! I hadn't seen it til you sent a couple leaves to me and I looked it up. It looks to be one of the true blue ones I love so much.

I bought the siz miniature Special after I thought Lorry got good plants, like storytellas and so on but she made a mistake.
I had recieved a large order from the a week or two before. All the mini's were poor conditions leaves unhealthy..soaken wet, I cut crwons off and hoping to save, yet dumb me still ordered the mini special I got excited over Lorrys plants.
Well the plants one mis-named Baby Tears ( It's a standard) and plants heavy soaken wet. ) ....
Well to make story short they did not repsond first email sad it's hard to know how much to water plants,
and they picked Baby Tears up some where must have been missed labeld., and this is not really their shipping season..
Another email was sent to them twice they never responded so I will be posting a Neg. on DG watch.
Too bad I have bought a lot from them .
Oh yes I bought a Russian leaf last summer one leaf for $4.75 it was Standard leaf so small. She told me those leaves grow small. It died in few days.
So from then on I ordered Russian plants or plants to get leaves rather than pay for one leaf and have it die.
Also the miniature special they sent 4 of the 5 plants I had also got in poor condition two weeks before and paid full price. Could they have not sent me doubles ? I know what plants I already sent you and would try not to send you doubles ?

Raingazer sweetie. I have southern sprintime and will send you leaves. I also have fairy fountains and would be happy to send you leaves.
I also have chirita Diane Marie you are welcome to a leaf of and I have some mosiac varieties.
On bluebird..I have not had any bad experiences yet OTHER then them always sending me subs. I have told her before I would like refunds and not subs since usually I give the subs away. Since my collection is so large, I often have whatever they send in substitution.
My plants have all luckily, been healthy though.
They are frequently out of a lot of plants though...and they send subs...so from now on..if I order. I will want a list of what they have in stock before I actually pay.

Lorry wern't your plants soaken wet. I know you got your Miniature spcieal list mixed up so that's why I ordered mine. I know you posted you threw the tags away and started over >? And plants were soaken wet.
Laurie's were also soaken wet.

The minis were wet yet but they were not damaged yet due to it..*Thank goodness*.
And so far they have not showed any ill signs since being transplanted :)

I have a good start on the storytella violets Allison..I am going to send you a couple leaves of each when I ship to you again :)

I ordered a MISC group of minis from Bluebird.
I got one that was a really LOVELY surprise..
It is called little bo peep...wow! She is not blooming yet but GREAT leaves!

Hmmm, well I certainly don't want any that are half-drowned when they arrive. Darn! And that was the only place I could find that was shipping now.
I found violetmania on eBay, and they are in Stanford, Kentucky, which is the same as Cedar Creek Violets. violetmania is the one who had Sunny Skies. I emailed and they said they had another to be listed this week. I wonder if they're the same people as Cedar Creek? Any experience ordering from either of these two?
You two know I'd be thrilled with whatever you'd like to send to me! The Hisako that Allison sent to me is the only Chirita I have and Diane Marie is gorgeous! Any of them would be simply fabulous!

yes they are the same . plants fine. i just could not figure why she bought a plant from him and left him feedback when their same people, one pay pal account, 2 ebay names ..

I looked at the Garden Watchdog feedback and felt it was less than promising. That't why I asked about them. I'm confused, though. Who bought a plant from them and left feedback? What is their other ebay name?
