Remembering summer nights

I promised a Winnipeg summer evening tour way back when. I finally found the pics and resized them so I will post a big bunch of them, just to remind us that summer evenings can be hot hot hot. This is a typical top down cruise on a warm evening for us, starting in Assiniboine Park. Most of the time there I spend in the English Gardens, then on down to Corydon Avenue(Little Italy).

More of the garden.

Leo's "Moses"

I think this area is nicest at night, but the park should be open later.

This is the Pavillion, on the way backout to the gate. There is a fancy restaurant on the main floor and art galleries upstairs.

One I forgot, from an earlier shot, close to the entrance to the English Gardens

Now dow Corydon. The first thing we look for is this lovely young couple.

These are so special I have lots of shots of them.

One more

Saffron's, one of the very popular patio restaurants.

Another one on the other side of the street, can't remember how it's spelled. Colloseo?

My apologies, hadn't really got the hang of night pictures with digi. Street vendors here and there too. Most sell jewelery, sunglasses.

After Corydon its down to The Forks sometimes, but whether we get there or not isn't important as long as we stop for a real chocolate shake and the best fries in town.. Burgers and hot dogs are great here. If you are in Winnpeg, be sure and stop at VJ's on Main St.

Right across from VJ's is the Via rail station. The Forks would be up behind there, but I don't seem to have taken any pictures there. I also promised some pictures of unique arcitecture for Pam, and I did try to get the Fort Garry Hotel annd some old buildings on Portage, but couldn't seem to get it good enough. Maybe this summer. That's all for now. Dream of summer nights.

Edited for tired fingers

Oh Brenda what a wonderful feast for our eyes........Winnipeg is gorgeous!!! I'd love to have your young couple in my garden. Do they sell miniature garden reproductions of them? That garden is lovely.........I'm going to have to do some travelling eastward one of these days soon! Ü

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Wow, echoes, thanks for the window into that lovely summer evening in Winnipeg. I really enjoyed your pics!

Brenda, Thank You for the fabulous tour! The gardens are so romantic looking. DH and I have a plan to visit one Canadian province this year, and it looks like Manitoba might be it. Now, I really can't wait.

Erynne

Thanks Sandy. Looking back at summer does seem to help get through a ccold blowy winter night.

Pam there may be reproductions of the two "statues", judjing from their devotion to each other, but I'm sure they won't be selling any. There are buskers every evening on Corydon and at The Forks, but these two are my favourites. The little kids are mesmerized by them, and they are so kind to them. I've seen them bend down to give a little one a special hello. Some of the comments as people walk by are quite funny.

The gardens are one of my favourite places. I've even had seeds fall into my bag while walking through.

Missed you posting Erynne. Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them. For sure, make Manitoba a destination, or at least a long stopover in your travels.

Now Brenda I'm ever so curious what you've discovered there that you haven't already got growing in your own yard?

Thanks, Michelle. So right - COME ON SPRING! I go and look at my pansy seedlings 5 or 6 tmes a day to see if they are any bigger. I want blossoms. Want them now.

Pam, last year some Anthriscus 'Raven's Wing' fell in my bag. Sometimes I see a nice annual that I think I should try. A few years back I'd find the odd perennial that no one could identify for me, not even the head honcho. I had to grow them to find out what they were. Now it's usually just some annual that looks interesting. Oh yeh, and some clematis that will be a surprise.

Looking forward to seeing your garden pics this summer! :)

Well you know where to look for them. Maybe we should have a prairie RU and you can come and see for yourself.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Great tour, Brenda! We never got down to Corydon or the English Gardens. I guess I was to busy in my own gardens...lol.
:) Donna

Well it is the other side of the city for you. But you should head that way some fine evening. Try the jgelato.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

We usually do. DH knows the guy that owns the Jelato place. It's best especially since we get it for free.

My times in Winnipeg have always been in the depths of winter, running from one building/hotel to another for conferences. We did have dinner at the Forks one night. But I never saw the city looking like this! Thanks for the great tour.

Glad to show you. Andy, VJ's only closes for the first two weeks of January so you can indulge there, even in the winter.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I had to bump this one up again.... :)

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Definitely worth a bump. Aren't these photos beautiful?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Good golly, I was wondering if I had a case of deja vu or something because I know I've seen these before. Then I looked at the date....aaah, it's a bump!
Brenda, don't know if you've visited DG lately but in any case, you are missed!

Thanks for the bump lilypon. Beautiful.

Thanks for looking and I'm glad you enjoyed.

Erynne, what a sweet thing to say. I stop in to check on what's happening now and then, but it's hard to participate sporadically. I'll try to get posting more. I have seen your thread on your new place. Wonderful! You can really wear yourself out on a big place, but you are still young. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Thank you Brenda! I'm really feeling at home these days and love the house & property. You are so right about taking care of a such a big space....constant upkeep! I'm in my middle thirties, so yes young still, but I'm thinly spread, lol. I do my best to give a little in each direction these days, even when it comes to posting on message boards which I don't get to visit for as long as I'd like....oh well.

Looking forward to seeing you around again,
erynne
