Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis)
How does one trim a bottle palm if it should be trimmed at all?
No, shouldn't ever need to trim it once it's an adult. When seedling- just cut off leaves that are completely dead near the trunk.... leaves fall off on their own later on
I have a bottle palm not sure how old but is about 4ft tall, I trim the leaves when they are dead but how do I achieve the smooth trunk or will the rest of the leaves just fall off or do I have to somehow cut them off.
normally you let the leaves fall off on their own.. if you cut the leaves off as in the above photo, there is less weight on the remaining leaf bases and I think that keeps them from falling off and revealing a smooth trunk. Best to let leaves die and fall off on their own rather then cutting them, if you want a smooth trunk
