Red Barked Dogwood, Tatarian Dogwood (Cornus alba)
Wow....what a great winter show! I don't suppose I can grow this in Texas?? After I discovered this about a month ago, I went to a book store to research, but can't remember finding much...can you tell me about it?
Hi Connie_W, According to "Dirr's Hardy Trees & Shrubs" it should do fine. Apparently it is hardy to shade, sun, drought, etc.
This nursery has a few listed but they are wholesale growers but may know a nursery in your area that carries their products: http://www.springmeadownursery.com/plants_cornus.htm
Zone 8 is at the top of its zoning according to the book. I've seen it used in street meridian plantings. It seems tough.
I went to the link and found 'Arctic Fire'...the compact version that grows to 3-4 feet. That's the kind I would like. Is yours the compact version?
The picture was taken in VanDusen Botanical Gardens and should be the species. Arctic Fire sounds neat.
