Scary trivia, but maybe not so trivial

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

DH told me the news on his pc home page had a blurb this morning that said 2005 was the HOTTEST year in Texas in 100 years! I'm not surprised and I am a little relieved that it wasn't all in my head and/or I was being wimpy about the heat.

Tomball, TX(Zone 9a)

NOT a wimp. I remember dragging the water hose around in September thinking I was gonna die!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

We can usually turn our A/C off in October and we couldn't this year, it was too hot. I know it broke several records down here for heat this summer.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

We were cooler in August than in Sept. and Oct. Very strange. I still have morning glories blooming, and many other things, plus more butterflys than I have ever seen before.

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Was wandering in the yard the other day, and noticed I have roses putting on new growth, sedum, gerbera daisies, verbascum, wandering jew, lily of the nile and cannas coming up, plus the daffodils and other spring bulbs. Was at DDs yesterday and her daffodils are blooming! I'm thinking we are in trouble no matter what. If it freezes, it gets our plants, and if it doesn't, it's going to be bug city.

Our cannas are also blooming. Thjere are a lot of grasshoppers, and a lot of birds earing them.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

June was definitely the hottest driest month I ever remember seeing here--100 in Houston is rare anytime but we had several days of it near the end of June.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Some butterfly ginger that was given to me at the Dallas plant swap never died back completely, and I've had new growth from the bottom since the first of Jan!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great Mary, glad it is thriving! Mine dies back up here, but will come back late spring.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Sheila, are you the person who gave this to me? I forgot. I tried so hard to keep track of who gave me what, but... I'm so looking forward to the blooms, but I'm keeping an eye out for cold weather that could kill off the new growth.

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

My roses have never stopped blooming, and I have an angel trumpet that has more leaves on it now than it did last summer. It's FINALLY raining here today. I think we've only had one or two freezes all winter. Strange weather.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

My Clerondendrum ugandanese (sp?) just budded out with leaves again....that is always the last shrub that buds out for me in the spring. Very strange winter.....you'd know it, the hottest winter we've had in ages is the one when my air conditioner breaks at the end of Oct. lol I should be able to get it fixed in a couple of weeks--had the guy out today. Got lucky on the price, managed to get one of the HISD air conditioner guys to do it as a "side job".

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a Dwarf Fringe Flower that is blooming it's head off! I just planted them when we re-worked the front bed late summer. I hope we don't have any more freezes because so much will be effected.

maggiemoo, did I bring that butterfly ginger to the swap? can't remember, but I do have some white...

Here in the Dallas/Ellis county area, some of the paperwhites have already bloomed (hope there are more!), & the rosemary is in full bloom.

Cannas are peeping above ground, & the spirea has tiny leaves, although its old leaves have only just now dropped.

Oh Maggie, I forgot to answer you on the Butterfly Ginger. I am almost certain you got some of the White Butterfly that I brought. I know I had a lot of it, Lizard's Tail, Pickrel, and Horsetail at the swap in Dallas. But I am like you, I can't keep up with who I got what from if I don't write it down immediately.
Hi Sylvia, nice to see you on DG! I don't run into you over here much. Hope to see you at the RU in College Station in April.
