I was there today and they had 4 kind of ears. I got the Colocasia esculenta 'Black Magic' which came in a package of 2 decent size bulbs. Also there was a green Colocasia esculenta which were very, very big, 3 to a bag. Alocasia odora, and a bag of Colocasia Illustris. They were all $9 a bag. They had so many different kinds of bulbs and roots, some I had never heard of!
Heads up on Costco ears
Call me jealous! I wonder if those packages will make it to Ohio.
Do you know the name of the whole sale nursery that is putting these out. I think I am pretty sure who it is. I have seen the picture before they have been very interested in some of my plants and are interested in mass producing a few things I have made. They told me they would have huge black magic tubers forsale this year and I am guessing this is them. Maybe will have some of my new hybrids in their in the next few years?
Thanks for the heads up Kell. I joined Costco because of the great 'bagged' bulbs they get in the spring. LOL.... Such a junkie.
Great tip, Kell. I don't live near a Costco, but when I'm "on the road again" maybe I can get to one.
We don't have a costco here either.
I've been a member of Sam's on and off the last ten years. My membership just ran out again. I have no idea where there is a Costco. Hmmm...
The Black Magic tubers aren't huge like the green ones are.
The company is the Practical Gardener, Brian. They have bagged and boxed tubers, bulbs and roots.
Costco also had incredibly big own root roses this year from Jackson and Perkins. Lots of David Austin, all $9.99. Their tree roses were great too at $21.00 and they had all the new ones which sell at the nurseries around here at $39.

Greez, Only a true plant junkie takes her camera to Costco. LOL
LOL. Actually these are the from the bags and boxes I took home. I photograph all my new plants for my garden inventory list. That way I can see all I killed at the end of the year. LOL
But I used to take it to Costco until before Christmas when I took my week old $500 camera there to take pics of their bouquets as I usually do just in case they have a new flower I have never seen before.
When I whipped it out of my pocket to take a pic, I had damaged the 2 inch view finder, ruining the camera. That cured me forever.
WOW, some good finds Kell. I take photos of my new plants too, for my attempt at keeping some sort of record of what's doing what. I don't have a Costco here, but I understand that I can join and shop online. I'll have to look into that. I think we are supposed to get one next year (or the next). I can't wait that long.
We dont have Costco here either. The closest ones are in the burbs of Atlanta a little over an hour away. However, Sams has bulbs usually this time of year or maybe in a month or so and they are very cheap. I bought 90 Caladium bulbs for 36 bucks last spring. Not bad for almost a hundred bulbs.
Now, has anyone checked BJ's wholesale? I wonder what they might have?
Hmm... I seed a trip to Costco coming soon.., then Sams, then Home Depot, then Lowes.....talk about a junky!

What an awesome selection of goodies you can find at your Costco! No fair, no fair!!
:) Donna
I too purchased Colocasia Bulbs at Cosco last week. I am headed there tomorrow to purchase the Giant Bird of Paradise plant in a 15 gallon tub.
The plant is already 6 to7 feet tall. Can anyone tell me how large the roots or ball will get and how to care for this beautiful creature. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, DJ
Don't forget that Costco has a coupon in the Passport for $2 off each bag of bulbs (limit 10) good Feb. 6 through Feb. 12. If you didn't get your Passport in the mail, you can pick one up at the Service Desk.
Deb, I don't know if you are buying the exact same plant, but did you see this? LOL http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/571515/
I think the nearest Costco to me is about 40 minutes away. Do I or don't I??? ;) I just looked it up. Make that 40 miles which should take about an hour.
I bet those bulbs won't be here for another couple of months or so.

I am certainly learning a lot here. I have seen bulbs in all the above mentioned stores, but were afraid to buy them, thinking that they were !@#$, not good. I certainly will give them a second look this spring. Thanks guys.
Hi, Kell.
Hap
LOL Hap! Hi to you too. So good to see you again!! I need to come over to visit you on the coleus forum. I want to buy some different coleus seeds and having no luck finding any.
Kell....there are a lot of new ones coming out.....hang on.....
Hey I bought some colocasia at Costco this weekend too..
When I got home I looked it up and I found out that it is just the common Taro root that you can buy in asian markets around here.
Return them!! That is what I love about Costco, they have such an easy return policy.
What was the name of them GreenYedGuru? I bought mine at the Davis St Costco and they had Colocasia esculenta 'Black Magic,' green Colocasia esculenta, Alocasia odora, and Colocasia Illustris.
Where are pics of the new ones, Hap? I am hanging onto my chair here. LOL Are they gaudy I hope??
Mine were just the regular ones.. I'd return them but I already planted them.. No big deal, it's not worth the trip back there jsut for that.. But if I need more I know where to go :)
Just heard from the grape vine......I don't think all the catalogues are out yet....
I just saw some bulbs at my local Lowe's - they have a generic 'esculenta', as well as a Black Magic (I think they call this one an 'esculenta', too).
The bulbs are one to a package; I believe they're $2.98 each.
Steve
