Had to leave them all behind

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

I feel so lost without all my plants. I had a house full that I ended up giving most to a friend that had to bring a van to haul away. All the ones that I had planted in the ground remained with the house. The only one I brought was my Pony tail Palm.
All the rest, my bamboo, cannas, bananas, Apple tree and Peach tree, everything had to be left behind.
So, here is what I am asking. If anyone has extra plants to spare that will grow here, I would be forever gratefull and will gladly send out cuttings when they mature.
Beggers can't be choosers so I am pretty open to anything.

Jan I know the feeling since Hurricane Katrina. Everyone is wonderful here at DG. They will get you hooked back up with plants in no time. Hopefully I will be back in action this spring and will have stuff to share come fall

Guilford, CT(Zone 7a)

I will certainly send along some plants to get your going once again - but it must wait until the temperatures warm up... perhaps in May? We are way too cold right now here in New England! I have some lovely Begonias I could offer...
Or I could send some seeds - do you have a nice sunny window to grow seeds?

Jan.... I thought I knew Oregon pretty well, since I'm just about 90 miles south of the Oregon border on the coast.... are you on the coast? Eastern Oregon?? Are you looking for outdoor or indoor? I'd be glad to share something with you.... let me know.

JRush, that is so kind. It's pretty cold here to still but today was an exception. It broke all records and was a nice 70'. May will be great and I love begonias
Sanna, Toledo is just six miles from the coast inland. We are right by Newport, Oregon. Indoor or out. I have lots of seeds but the growing season is pretty short here. Thanks

Hi!

sorry to hear that. I know very well how you feel. i had to relocate from England to Atlanta and had to give away all my plants. I had more than 100 tender geraniums, some rare hardy geraniums and other houseplants.

I am starting from nothing but after I posted a message here, some very kind peeps sent me some plants. Now i have about 8 small pots with houseplant cuttings, 2 epis, 1 orchid and some brugs.

If my brugs root, (they are in water at the moment), I will be happy to send you some.

Good luck
Anna

Ooh - 70 degrees - What a nice day! Perhaps you could begin experimenting with some houseplants, especially if the growing season is very short. Begonias really don't care if they are outdoors or not - & will thrive in a bright wondow. I have Pregnant Onion & Umbrella palm, which both do very well indoors. It will be a different type of gardening, but you have loads of choices.

oh forgot to say I have spider plants green and variegated and a few amaryliss bulbs if you would like some

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Jan, I can send some angel wing begonia cuttings.. That is about all I have in the way of plants right now, I'm still a newbie but Ill do some digging around to see what I can come up with.

Can you post some kind of wish list to give us a little more to go on?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

I am really looking for outdoor plants right now as I have little space inside until we get shelves and storage built. I had to down size my furniture and I have very little room for much else. Hanging plants like (spiders and hanging begonias) would be great inside as there is plenty of room on the ceiling. Heheh. I would love to get some (Hoyas) again. I left the four I had to the new owners as they were well established and very large. The outdoor ones that seem to do well around here are (Rododenderons) (sp?) Anything that likes lots of rain. We have plenty of that. In the summer though it does get fairly warm here but not scorching like the desert we came from. (Hens and chicks) do very well here.
Like I say, I am pretty much open to what ever anyone can spare. I just feel so lost without my plants. I have always had more plants then money but they made me just as happy. Well, almost. Hehe!
Once I get it all going I will start sharing to all of you again.
Oh yea, (Irises) would be nice too.
Thanks all of you.

I have some canna's I could send you. I think I have lost the tags off of them though.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

jerodsmom, that would be wonderful. Cannas add lots of color and I need that. Do they do well in this zone?
DonnaB, the amarillis bulbs would be wonderful too.
Thanks

It is so hard realizing you are you! LOL With both the state and name change, it totally throws me. You are tombstonejan in my brain still. That is probably what I would call you if I met you in person. Heck, I am still trying to get MY address right and get accustomed to seeing MY different city on here after 3 months!

I am sure I will have some extra goodies too. Our weather is absolutely nuts here. It is like spring here but I fear February will bring a nasty cold snap. When things wake up here in a couple of months, I'd be happy to share.

Jan,

I also have been watching and waiting to see what I have that you could use.

I moved to zone 9 in December and all the plants I brought went dormant. Although I have made great strides in getting them planted, and they are still alive, they all look like dead sticks and I can't even ID them until they get some green back on.

It's a whole new world for both of us. I'll keep an eye out here and let you know what I have in a month or two.

I am looking for mainly outdoor plants right now. I would love to get some of the bogonias. I have been looking around and it seems that there are a lot of azalea bushes and rododenderons. I also found some bamboo growing wildly in someones yard. I am always looking when I take wallace for his walks.
Boy the wind here the last couple of days has really played havoc. There are lots of downed Big Pines and debrie all over. The power went on and off several times last night as we have one of those touch lamps and everytime the power came back on, so did the lamp.
Lots of wind and rain. I am sure looking forward to summer time.

My advice is to curl up indoors with a couple of gardening catalogs...
Embrace your Spring fever - there is lots to do before Spring arrives. You can plan out your new gardens, scan catalogs & websites for ideas, & do some dreaming - while the weather is wild & nasty. The weather always throws us some doozies before it finally gives it all up & welcomes Spring :)

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Got it Jan. Delete that post for your safety

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

DonnaB,
Thanks so much. I got the bulbs and will get them in the ground asap. I will get a check off to you on Friday if that is okay.
Thanks again

perhaps if you put its botanical name "Tradescantia spathacea" in a thread, someone may recognize it. The common name I have always known it by is "Moses in the Bullrushes".
