Does anyone know where I can get some lavender mint? I looked on the Plant Files but I couldn't find it. I had some in a pot but it died. It's strange how they do that when you forget to water them.
Lavender Mint
I got mine last year at a garden center here in Austin, but that doesn't help you much. I found it online at mountain valley growers http://www.mountainvalleygrowers.com, and also Papa Geno's http://www.papagenos.com/default.asp. I'll keep an eye out for it too. I hope to get some more this year-mine died under similar circumstances as yours. I shouldn't put pots above my eye level...
Thanks for your help. I can't remember where I found mine. It could have been in Fredericksburg, one of the plant nurserys in the Height or maybe Gruene. Good luck on replacing yours. If I can't find it at a nursery I can always order a plant.
Thanks again
Melissa is a grower I've purchased MANY plants from. Her website is: http://www.ladybugburns.com/plants.htm#S She is an absolutely sweet heart - prompt answers to emails and shipping AND reasonable prices!! Tell her Chantell said "hi"
Hi, I am a new DGer in sunny Phoenix - 9b where it already is 85 degrees & will be 115 this summer. I have a new sweet bay - laurus nobilis, in a 5 gal pot - which is not even in the ground yet & looks stressed. Trying to decide if it will make it on the west side of the house (where I want it!) with full reflected sun & heat, or whether it needs a more sheltered spot in the back yard. Any opinions?
Welcome to DG!!
I have no experience in your zone, but my sweet bay (in a big pot) loves spending the summer on my sunny, hot, south-facing deck... it is sheltered from wind, there, however.
A more helpful suggestion from me, and I hope you'll take it in the non-critical way it's intended... Start a new thread for this question with a subject line like "stressed sweet bay needs help." I'm afraid your question will get lost in this thread about lavender mint. You'll get more responses on a new thread, and the information will also be easier for others to find later when they're looking at their stressed potted bay and thinking, now, where did I see some tips on what to do for this plant? :-)
Thx critterologist - This is my first "forum" experience of any kind so the tips are welcome.
My sweet bay has survived about 8 yrs on the west side of my house with total neglect....it would easily be over 50' tall if I didn't hack it back every year like kudzoo!
OK, dmj - I'm going to go for it and cross my fingers for that west-side spot.
I've also ordered many herbs from 'ladybugburns' she's wonderful, she also puts herb topiaries up on ebay. Look for her!
