Thanks Bob have to wait and see what the other blossoms look like ! It's one of those rare Russian Av's. People sell lves. on it on Ebay and say Rare for sale only on Ebay. Well why do I have some of same plant and I did not buy mine on Ebay ?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Very pretty Allison.

Simply lovely, Allison!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thank you :))

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Allison that is gorgeous. So tell me how did you get it if it's only sold on ebay?
I have some concerns about the stuff on ebay. I have purchased a few AVs on ebay, but am not swayed by the claims of how rare something is- I buy because it strikes my fancy. Are those claims of rare, etc. accurate? I can understand how AVs from other countries would be/could be rare, or new varieties, etc. but what makes an AV rare? Is it just that it fades from popularity and isn't traded as often?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Beware April of the rare only sold on Ebay lies. They are not true. I bought my Russians plants/leaves from Bluebirds Greenhouse. I think a one leaf if $4.75 and a plant is about $10.00. They are rare but can be bought other places than Ebay. I even share them FREE :)) On Ebay they go real high.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah I am not generally a suspicious person, but I have been fooled a few times on Ebay. Allison, I say you and just hop a jet and go to Russia! Wonder what the penalty for smuggling AV leaves is?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I sent you two Russian plants ! IYou could sell them on Ebay starting $9.99 each and they'd go higher for you. Hek leaves go over ten dollars :))
I have about 6 of them. I never planned on going crazy over them . I bought a leaf here and there.
I went crazy over the Ajohn's, and all Swedish Av's they never did well for me. I went crazy over David Senk's plants, they never did well for me. But the Russians are easy to grow and progate. They remind me more of the old fashion African violet !
I'm sending MsC some Russian and sent Amy some Russian leaves ! I was lucky one leaf gave me many fast growing babies :)) I have one the translated name is " Beloved Daughter" I can Spell Russian names off hand. It's blossoms are a pretty blue/ violet color ( to me) but the blossoms get like 3 inches plus and last a long time. This one above it blooming for the first time. It is not blooming true but beautiful ! Maybe the other blossoms will be different !
Yes lot's of times I see on Ebay Rare. When I know they are not rare yet people pay big bucks for them. I just sawy Bells of Ireland tiny plant go for almost $19.00. I have one saved for Laurie and one for a guy I don't know at all on another group. I see so many rares and I have several on my stand of those so called rare and Vendors sell them left and right good size plants for reasonable prices .
To me it's rare when no one sells it and no one has it
and I want it and there is no other way to get a leaf or plant from anyone or any Vendor.
Like my Plain and Fancy. Vintage by E. Champion. I have not seen any Vendor sell it , nor seen it on Ebay. I was blessed with leaves from a Secret Trade.
I gave one to LInda " RDT" I hope it does well for being a rare vintage and she can grow it and more to share ! I'm sending one to MsC and I hope she can do the same. It's good to keep the Vintage and rare African violets growing and sharing them.
I am not a suspicious person I am just saying beacasue someone says a plant is RARE and can only be bought on Ebay does not mean this is true.
And Rare does not always mean rare. I personaly
don't think they should say that it is when it is not.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes I agree and I am so glad that you sent me the Russians that you did. They are beautiful.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I hope they grow good for you. I will have other babies
growing of others soon !

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Allison we could just go to Russian, it would be easier!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Allison are the flowers much larger than regular Av's? I think I read that somewhere.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes I think so. Long lasting. I feel the plants grow and rott well more like the old fashion ones :))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Allision, I think your first bloom looks pretty close to that.... it just has less white. That's within the range of color variation I see on some of mine from one bloom cycle to the next. I wouldn't worry that it isn't "true."

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I was hoping that Jill ! I like the blooms how ever they come out , sometimes i like them better !

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Boy that is one beauty. I love the pinks but lost mine when I moved and it was left on the porch and got chilled and died. BooHoo

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh gosh sorry yours died. I am finding I have lots of pinks I enjoy !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Makshi, are you settled in again & ready for new AVs? If so, please Dmail me! I owe ya! :-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Jill the bloom is opening up more and looking more like picture . So pretty !
