Here is my question - I am visiting another BBS where the poster "ID" is whatever you what it to be. At the end of your post, your server ID is posted. This seems kind of risky to me. I am on cable internet, and we do have a router for all of the computers in house, but.............is this risky?
I've heard conflicting stories.
One is that our IP address is what it is, and if a hacker decides they want in, they are in.
Two: is that our server (comcast) should broadcast different IP addresses at different times.
None of this makes sense to me. My intuition tells me that, if I post to a board, and everyone can see my IP address, then I am vulnerable. No matter if my server (comcast) changes up my IP address once a month, twice a month or everyday.
What do you think?
