What would be a good first rex?

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Hey all:

I have been quite successful with rhizomatous begonias the past few years and they seem to thrive in my conditions. I now think I might be ready to take the plunge and try out my first rex cultivar. What would you all recommend as a good, showy cultivar that could also take a few beginner's mistakes?

Thanks in advance for any input or advice.

for me, I practiced with the cheapest HD varieties. Once I got the hang of not overwatering them, and giving them the humidity they love, Then I graduated to some nice ones. I have great luck with Iron Cross, but some don't care for it. It hasn't been tempermental for me at all. In fact, it lived (although not so great) in a hot dry spot in a north-west window with pleated shades, and also is thriving in my greenhouse.
The two on the left are 'Escargot'. pretty easy too, but for me a bit more tempermental.

I never have had good luck with 'Two Face', I've killed two so far, but I'm determinded. Also never had much luck with the beautiful 'Fire Flush' (or Fire Flash, Ive seen it spelled both ways)

'Fireworks' is fairly easy and a real show stopper. Also 'Super Curl' is pretty easy and quite fancy.

Here's 'Fireworks'

Agreed, Fireworks is easy to find and easy to grow too. I don't have Super Curl Butch - hint hint!
