going blind searching...

All I need to know is if datura seed should be covered or not. Also, how deep should the seeds be planted, if at all?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL, here I was going to tell you where I buy my blinds to make my name tags.

I have no clue, but in nature they reseed so easily, I would think on top of the soil or just down in a crevice.

er, maybe my title to this thread could have been clearer. Perhaps someone "in the know" will answer.

I have datura Wrightii, Le Fleur Lilac and Inoxia. I would love a triple yellow. How deep, if at all, do you plant the seeds?

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Plant just below the surface. if you are planting indoors for next spring do not plant too early as they will get leggy, and hard to keep going, at least that is my opinion.

thanks, kareoke. I am thinking of planting some in my brand new little greenhouse.

WS, I'm in the same zone as you. If you plant too early they just get to darned leggy. Wait a month at least. Just under the soil, but they are such weeds it probably doesn't matter the depth. Try different depths.
I did that 2 years ago (planted way too early) & had a bunch of leggy plants & the Blackeyed Susan vines were stringy & growing all over everything. My marigolds were thin & tall & I lost most of them when I finally planted out. I really learned my lesson. Now, 8 weeks before our last frost date is when I plant my seeds. So it's early March for me.
It is so hard to wait! I have even avoided looking at seed catalogs cause it makes me want to go get some 6 packs going.
I have been looking at Hosta sites tho! Woo Hoo!
Good luck! Happy planting!

I have mentioned in another thread that I am going to divide daylilies at the local community center. I will wait until they start blooming so I can take a picture and see if anyone wants them, on group at a time. There are also way too many hostas there, but again, I don't know their names. I may do the same with them; take their picture and post it for an I.D. and then trade them.
The reason I thought I might start the datura early is because it is so cool and rainy here in the summers and it takes them so long to reach maturity outside so if I can get them going in the greenhouse, I might actually get to see them bloom before frost, lol. What do you think?
