John Scheeper's

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I was surprised to no longer find John Scheeper's in the top 30 list of the Garden Watchdog. So I decided to search in the Garden Watchdog and that didn't work either. Can someone tell me the proper way to enter a search for Scheeper's, please?

Go to the Garden Watchdog and scroll down to the letters of the alphabet, then click on the "J" and scroll doen to John Scheepers. You're welcome.

You know, I did get 100 scilla with bug infestation from them...

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7a)

Was that Scilla Siberica?

Maybe John Scheepers is only listed in the fall as they don't do summer bulbs.

I got a catalog from them yesterday. Having never ordered from them I looked them up in the GWD. Don't think I'll be ordering from them. http://davesgarden.com/gwd/advanced.php?search_text=scheepers

I buy all my bulbs from them for years and have always been very happy.

I've seen them drop in and out of the top 30. I assumed it's because of the limited season of sales, but now I'm curious.

Denver, CO

Scheepers has a "Kitchen Seed" business that they run in the off-season.

They are one of two main bulb sources for me, and have the best prices to mach with high-quality bulbs. Last fall suprised the heck out of me, as I ordered Scilla siberica 'Spring Beauty;' their coardboard box was packed with sawdust, and was too loose for my idea of good shipping, as the bulbs banged around a bit and some were dessicated. Worst, I smelled honeydew and used some magnification to find that there were extremely tiny mite/flea-like bugs in many of the bulbs, hollowing them out. Most unexpected. Scheepers refunded the eaten number of bulbs and I consider the whole experience to be a folly freak fluke!

They and Brent & Beckys top the list for Printed-catalgue companies. Berrygirl, don't hesitate- they are supreme. I've started a list for next fall already!

That watchdog search box doesn't work very well, does it? It seems like it should , though, doesn't it?

I've ordered loads of bulbs from Scheeper/VanEngelen for several years and haven't had any unexpected problem with them. Customer service was fine when some attention was needed. I usually take advantage of their summer sale to get my first choices.

Scheeper offers a very wide range of most bulb varieties and at good prices.

Of course for special rare bulbs I go elsewhere.

And for really nice fat spring bulbs at excellent prices (but a more limited range to choose from) I go to eFlowergarden and Touch of Nature, of course.

My alliums are coming up now--btw, bleek. Oh, dear!

Summer sale? Do explain, our alliumophile. You don't want a few A shaerocephalum, do you?

Hi Bert! Long time, no see. Thanks for the assurances about Scheeper's.
I did have excellent success with them and keep encouraging them to sell summer bulbs, too....

...and add their list to PlantFiles...

I order lots of bulbs from them and Van Engelen another part of the same company. Sometimes things are less than wonderful. They give a refund. most of the time things are better than what I hoped or expected. Prices are really good, quality great.

Maybe the folks who are most likely to post on GWD are the dissatisfied customers and those of us who appreciate them should say so

just a thought

I just checked GWD and it seems very positive. Notice how old some of the posts are.

I originally found them because Consumer's Reports rated bulb growers about 3 years back. Scheeper's rated #1

Denver, CO

http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/43/

They aren't rated badly. I figure that those few ill ratings come from the fact that when a great company is popular enough, they will unavoidably run into those folks that wouldn't be pleased if the bulbs came in 14c gold bags.

I, like Cynthia, agree that if you have dealt with them and have not posted a rating, please do!

James, I read the comments on Plants Files but couldn't see where to post a comment.
