I've lurked in this forum for a couple years, even though I have not posted. Now I need help. My 81 year old Mom lives with me, and she had the last of her teeth pulled a couple weeks ago. She's healing fine, but is having a LOT of problems with her new denture. The dentist is being great working with her, but the long and short of it is, it's been 12 days, she has lost 4 pounds. She does not have a lot more weight she can lose.
She can not really chew anything. She is "sick to death" (her words) of pudding, yogurt, and custard. At first, all she could eat was thin soup. But now, she's able to eat things like soup beans if they are totally smashed up. Today I made tuna salad by mincing the celery and onion really small, and even mincing the tuna, then she can eat it without chewing. I made some home made Mac & cheese with extra milk, and put it in the mini chopper when it was done, and she was able to eat it without chewing. We had some left over sloppy Joe filling in the freezer and she tried it but couldn't eat it - even though the hamburger was browned, it still made her feel like she needed to chew it before swallowing.
We don't have a blender - but I do have an old food processor, and I do have a stick blender, and a mini chopper.
She is able to eat baked sweet potatoes and regular baked potatoes (no skin). But, she was unable to eat rice. It seems that the texture is more important than the size.
She is really hungry for meat - and more than that, vegetables.
Any ideas for something I could make for her? She will eat chicken, beef, pork.... and almost all veggies.
Thanks!
Jules
