Super small canna

Louisville, KY

This is a hybrid I have made and I have kept it around because of how odd it is. It is possibly the smallest full grown canna I have seen. I am still not sure on releasing it. The problem I have is I only want to release superior hybrids and though I do run into a lot of odd ball stuff that I cannot seem to let go of they are still not something I would like people to know my cannas by. This one tends to not shed its flowers well at all. It is one that I have to pull the dead off of it. It is also fairly weak compared to most and has had a tendency to rot for no reason. Like many things this is a genetic mutation or freak. Maybe breeding with it could produce healthy stock but in most cases like this they are sterile. I have not tried it but I will this coming season. It would be nice to have a canna as a ground cover in the very front of my beds with the caladiums? Here are a few pics. I will listen but it may take a lot for me to release this one to the public LOL.

This is why I don't like it. Notice the dead flowers stuck in the blooms. It blooms in bunches which I find attractive at first but find this is one of the common things seen on cannas that will not shed. Last season it should have made a nice large clump but instead came up with just a few stalks. I hope it preforms better this year.

I have grown this out for a few years and many times I can get a canna to bloom under 1 or 2 feet by putting them in small pots. This however is a true dwarf or mini dwarf. I believe the tallest it has gotten is 1 ft tall max.
