Wow...I am going to try to grow it and never ever ever water it!!!! Thanks Barb!!!

San Francisco, CA

WHAT IS THAT ?!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Dischidia nummularia variegated form. Commercially called 'Pebble Beach' by EA. I love it and it was the one dischidia I found all over australia...and it is the one plant I have killed more often than not!!!

Priest River, ID

Hummmmm......Seems you got one last Summer ..........................

in Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow nice plant.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Sandy....I did get one last summer and killed it deader than a doornail. You are so darn generous, I didn't want to impose upon you again so I whined to the group.... :>)(. Now if I kill it... OH HELP ME!!!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Nice plant, where did you find it Barb? Good luck Carol.

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Linda, believe it or not I found it and another just like it at WalMart. I've seen them in the past at Lowe's and Home Depot, too. The one I got last October ~and subsequently killed~ was from HD and not nearly so full. This thing HATES water. Hates it!! In all honesty, I think if it were misted occasionally but never watered it would be a happy camper. Sandyc.. what's your secret, other than watering from the bottom? Has it ever bloomed for you?

Barb

Wow!! That one looks *fabulous* and puts my little one to shame!
I'm gonna have to find me one!

At least I can say I've grown it a couple of years successfully, lol! ;)

Barb....see my edited post in Carol's 'Lets get reports' thread.
It really doesn't like water and likes a very loose soil.
It'll be ok in that soil as long as you water it very little or let it soak up some water from the bottom.

I wait 'til I see the leaves almost 'shriveling' before I give it a dunk...and mist it every few days.

It blooms tiny white flowers and does occasionally get a seedpod.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

I was blessed to be sent one of these by Mel. She kept it for a week to dry it out; she must have used up a week's worth of newspaper. It arrived in great condition and I only lost 2 leaves. I hope I can keep it happy and healthy.

Blessings,
Awanda

Awanda....had you posted a photo of yours?
I notice that at the bottom of your post, above, it says "Click the image for an enlarged view" ????

Good luck with your Dischidias, ladies.

How's yours doing, Carol?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Actually...I still have a tiny piece from the one Sandy sent me and I put it on a tree. Of course, it rains all the time here....but the little devil bloomed!!! all 3 inches of her. Minute wee white flowers....

*Very nice* , Awanda.....I'm envious :)

Yours and Carol's look like twins!

I *do* wonder how EA gets them to grow like that....wish we had an 'insider'! lol!!

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 9a)

I'll second that! How in the world do they get such nice full pots? Then once we get them home as a consumer, it's bye bye, so we have to buy yet another one.

I want one !!!!! No kidding what is EA?? I do love the small leaves. Were did you get yours at Awanda and Barb? :))))

I just saw an 8 inch basket of dischidia pebble beach in the local Lowe's store for $15.97. Nice, but I left it there for someone else to murder.

Susan

Interesting. I'd never paid attention to the dischidia threads before, but someone gave me one recently. It doesn't look anything like what I'm finding on the internet though. I'd say more like a cross between H.Kentiana and H.Shepherdii - bright, shiny leaves even. Do all dischidias need this extreme non-watering scheme? Am I killing it by keeping its pot in a plastic bag and moist to root the cuttings?

Thanks.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Christine...sounds like you have F-440 or there IS an F-550 as well...same kind of leaves. I find mine does like more water than the others....I water it with my hoyas....

Thanks so much Carol. Can't wait to see flowers!!

I feel much better now, Carol! I've bought and killed 3 of them myself. Oh, I do have a few puney little cuttings left that I've managed to save (and, yes, mine bloomed for me too!) But it feels just AWFUL to lose a big ol' 10" pot full of beautiful, cascading, succulent, variegated leaves. It's the hardest of all the Dischidias to grow IMHO. How DOES EA grow them like that?? I wish I knew!! We just have to recruit a member who works there!

Well...this will get you!!! They were all over Australia when I was there (in the dry season) hanging down from gum trees all over the place. I think there are pictures of it on my website about my trip to OZ. Anyway, that's when I figured they grew dry in the winter and wet in the summer... I have some growing on some bark with spagnum moss and if I spritz it once a week it is happy. How EA grows them in that soggy stuff...beats me. Hat's off to them!!

Philomath, OR

If anyone is interested, I just saw one of these at a local HD. It was NOT as big as the one for Carol, but similar in size to the picture Awanda posted. If anyone would like me go back and get it for them I can. Just dmail me. It was $14.99 + shipping. Have a great day!

Oh, they have about 10, 8" pots of variegated H. kerrii for $10.59 each. FYI! God bless, -joanne

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I just got this very same plant at my local HD also for 11.99 HUGE like this one.
I can go back and see if they have more if anyone is interested
