Hi!
I could swear that I posted it this morning but here it goes again.
I found a very small Xmas cactus with his bottom part (where the root starts) rotting in the soil. I removed it from the pot, cut out all the rotting bits and now I am thinking about what to do with it. Can I root it in a bit of water?
I don't want to lose this plant so don't want to take risks. Thank you!

I've done it before successfully each time. I don't know if it's recommended, though. ; ) Right now I have some in vermiculite, though. I was told it would make the roots stronger when I put the segments in soil.

Thank you cjolene!
Be sure you leave the segments out for a few days so it can scarify on the bottom. I root mine in regular potting soil. Water should work too .
