Frist silly Question.....

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

And only 999 more to go..LOL... Does anyone ever plant their Amaryllis out in the garden beds or just keep them potted?? TIA Lauri

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

A lot of people plant their amaryllis in the garden. Particularly in mild climates.

If you are in a freezing climate, though, gardeners tend to dig them and bring them in in Winter...unless you don't care about losing them to a frost.

I have noticed some new introductions of 'hardy' amaryllis, too, although I don't know exactly what 'hardy' means in this case...

Athens, OH

I plant mine in the garden every Spring and dig them up and store them every Fall.
The flower display is amazing!

i plant then inground and they stay out year long. I buy a couple for forcing indoors, then I give them away to friends with instructions to pot or plant inground and wait for a 2nd blooming in April or so.

Thanks guys as soon as the mud dries a bit I'll get them out ... LOL somewhere. Lauri

Heya, Lauri -- I was wondering if you were going to post on any of these threads that Mark has been bumping up... Congratulations!! I'm sure the move from CA to the UK will be quite an adventure! LOL, I have a notion that marrying Mark will be an adventure in itself (and vice versa, but all in a good way!).

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

When is the wedding? I think Lauri mentioned recently that her move would be sometime around the holidays... When you're all settled in, we will have to throw you two a "plant shower" via UPS! Mark, I don't suppose you the custom regulations governing shipping plants to the UK... ??

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Not decided yet when the wedding is, but dont worry you will know as soon as we do!!!!!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh she did........................LOL Now how does she know when she is moving???????? Smiles
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh cool, A Plant shower via UPS!!!!!!! Would love that......................
To be honest Jill, I have no idea about Shipping plants to the UK............. I have had corcosmia from USA before and that was ok as long as there was no soil, and the plant was disease free etc etc........
I will have to find out the correct laws on this...............

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Do find out please... I figured anything would have to be bare root, but I'm not sure if I'd still need a phytosanitary certificate or some such.

Actually, I think Lauri just said something along the line of "maybe before the holidays, mabye after, we'll see." So it doesn't sound like she knows exactly when she's moving, either!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Yep, I will find out................ I dont want to guess really.................. we shall see, as soon as i know you will!!

We don't know yet when she is coming.............................. lots to sort out at her end!!!!!!!!
But you will be the first to know Jill........................ I promise!!

I figure as long as you've settled in together by next spring, that's all I need to know in terms of when to send plants or bulbs! I've got some little species tulips that have been multiplying well enough that I should be able to send a handful of them your way...

Wouldn't these look cute at the front of your crocosmia & amaryllis bed? ;-)

Of course, we know we can always send you seeds!

I've got lots of seeds drying now all over the dining room table... Here's Penstemmon smallii in bloom. It started blooming in early summer, together with Dutch Iris ('Eye of the Tiger').. I think it would be a nice "filler" for a perennial bed.
