Are Hoya's poisonous?

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I just did something really stupid without even thinking about it. I was looking at one of my hoyas that was sent to me and saw some spots on it that looked like dust - I went to wipe it with my finger and it didn't wipe off, so then (get this) I licked my finger to make it wet to see if that would get off the little dust spots. I immediately got a bad taste in my mouth and then rinsed out my mouth with water. I went to the PDB to see if there was anything on them about being poisonous and didn't find anything. Anyone know?

I think you will be fine! H. australis has been accused of killing cattle but I think they were eating big meals of it. And uh Karrie, if you have any angels trumpets, a.k.a. known as brugmansia, don't lick them. They are poisonous, all parts...

I have tasted the sap from the flowers to see if it was sweet...it is. I think since they are a member of the "milkweed family" and have that white sap, they are probably poisonous to a degree. However, just licking your finger is not going to do you in, I'm sure. Besides, my dog chewed on one once and it didn't phase him a bit.

ya know, I got a little light headed - but it may have been psycholgical. I'm fine - but it burnt my mouth.

I've checked this out on the internet before, I found nothing to support them being posionious. I was worried about my animals eating them. I also got a list from a plant store about toxicity of plants. Hoyas were listed nontoxic. You should be just fine. So all of the animal lovers, your house should be safe.
