What kind of Hibiscus is this?

Bromma, Sweden

Hi!

I have a red double Hibiscus. I am Swedish, so I don't know the word for it, but it doesn't have the "pollination thing in the middle". And also it gets white stripes in the middle. What could this be?

Hello again! Sorry about the three postings. I was having computer problems. Now I can't remove any of the postings.

Hi Fia:
Some doubles don't show the staminal column, "the pollination thing", some even don't have it so they won't be setseeders.
When you say the bloom doesn't have the staminal column, does it happen always or just this time?
Comparing the bloom and leave sizes I guess your bloom is under the miniature category - less than 5,5 inches (14 cms), so I'm afraid is one more of the unnamed european varieties.
I you want I can send the picture to other hibiscus forums. Maybe someone can identify it.

Hi! Thanks for your answer, Carlos! I've had the plant for several years, and it has never had the staminal column (so that's the word for it!). I've never measured the blooms, but they are definately smaller than 14 cm. Do you have any idea of what the white stripes might be? There are always white stripes in the middle. If you could tip me about some other Hibiscus forums that would be great.

Fia, white stripes is one of the many faces that a hibiscus can have although it's not common to see it in blooms. Varieties like El Capitolio or Baptistii have them. Colorized eyes, throads, rings and edges plus spotches are the usual appearance in blooms that haven't flat colors. Big size, 20-25 cms, is another characteristic of modern hybrids.

I don't know if it's permitted to give here info about other forums but here it goes. All of them are Yahho!Groups mailing lists, so you will need a Yahoo account to subscribe to them. In these lists you will discovered the unbelieveable world of hybrid hibiscus, but take care, it's addict and has no cure:

PD: I've edited 'cause IHS link didn't work. I don't know why it had a white space in it.

PD: The link still shows the white space although I don't see it neither when I write it nor in the preview box. The link will work if you delete the white space or its equivalent (%20).

Beautiful plant. Wish I could find one of those in the US.

Thanks! I can't believe you are impressed by my Hibiscus!!! We have very few different Hibiscuses in Sweden! So I'm really jealous of you! I've seen all the beautiful Hibiscuses you have in the USA on pictures on this forum. They are so pretty I can't believe you'd like mine! Thank you very much!
