Harbor Freight Greenhouse "My way"

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

I got a Harbor Freight Greenhouse 6 X 8 ft. for my birthday in July. But... other things got in the way and DH put it together for me for Christmas. Here are some pics of the construction. First the site. It is right off the front porch, so is convenient. It gets full sun (as much as there is) during winter and will be part shaded during summer. The windsor block raised bed is one of 4 I have that were build with blocks removed from the site where DH's workshop is now. Becky

Site prep - I moved some windsor blocks and dug out soil for the foundation

Foundation - DH used some existing blocks. He outlined with them and then laid 4x4's on top. He drilled holes thru the 4x4's and blocks then pounded in 2 ft. lengths of rebar. 2-3 places per side.

Framing - He attached the aluminum frame to the 4x4s. Its pretty easy to put together, but there are a lot of parts. The manual could be better when describing how to install the door and the window in the roof.

Landscape fabric added after leveling the floor a bit.

Gravel - Added about 3 inches of small pea gravel. DH left 2 glazing panels off so it was easier to shovel the gravel in. The door is only 2 ft. wide.

Shelving - DH cleared some of his junk off these shelves in the basement and now they are mine!

Harbor Freight GH
Generally priced just under $300, down to as little as $239 with discounts. 4mm twinwall polycarb.

A variety of "enhancements" have been designed by various owners, the principle one being the elevation of the entire structure by 8-12" by placing it on 2x8 or 2x12 frame for more headroom.

Notoriously difficult instructions, but here is a tutorial on construction of the HFGH that apparently is very helpful: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/strucs/msg1018342913355.html

Also, there is apparently a new, larger version 10' x 12' for $699.

Hi Anna, I got it from Harbor Freight in your neighborhood. It is in a shopping center at the corner of Indian Trail/Killian Hill and Hwy 29. Same center as Gold's Gym. Becky
