I find the Sport List very interesting. I was thinking about one of my favorites always blooming Funny Bunny...does not have a registered Sport. // And in order for it to have a Sport it would have to bloom true three generations not including Mom. I bought mine from Bluebird and it's bloomed pink two generations rather than the Vivid Fuchsia ! But then we always must check the Sport list from AVSA to make sure this sport has not been registered. Well it has not.
Then I see people selling ( for example) Sport of Irish Flirt but this is incorrect...as Irish Flirt already has a Sport which is Sassy Sister..
Not only must the Sport be stable three generations but must be an improvment from the Mom plant to be called a Sport of and named and registered. They say one in every hundred leaves Sport :)) Could be fun !
Would take a while to get three generations not counting Mom and have it bloom stable but you never know .
When buying a Sport of... Check the list this Sport may already have a registered name :)) Like my RB Splater Kake Sported to RB Night Breeze.
So I could not sell it as Sport of RB Splater Kake , or renamed it.
The great list of registered Sports is on AVSA sight and in our Sticky.s
PS three generations is not three babies from same leaf ....It's Mom plant, leaf put down, and Sports, and leaf put down from new Mom plant and Sports, and Leaf put down from next third new Mom plant and continues to have Stability of same first Sport :)) Also Joe Burns said it must also be an improvment from first plant.
.
Talking About Sports
Oh yes I wanted to add I find interesting a plant may Sport to more than one different plant, if they are different then they may have a different name. Fantasys Sport a lot.
For example Rebel's Splatter Kake has Sported to three other registered plants !
Rebel's Splatter Kake (8695) 01/31/1998 (R. Bann) Single-semidouble pink large fluted star/darker eye, purple fantasy, white-green edge. Medium green, spooned, quilted, glossy, serrated/red back. Large
>>>>>>>>>Has Sported to >>>>>>>>
1. People Pleaser (9016) 03/14/2001 (D. Thompson) Single medium blue sticktite star/white edge. Medium green, plain, quilted, wavy, serrated. Standard

There are some that have not made this list but they are asking people to check list and register the Sports so people know it has not already been named.
The interesting fun of Sports :))
allison...rofl...thought we were going to talk about football when i say your heading...he he...sports are amazing aren't they...
Hehe I like football but these sports are my favorite!
I have the sport of funny bunny so now I want funny bunny to compare her too!
Well Lorry I have Funny Bunny from Bluebird's and mine is 2 nd. generation and it may be a Sport too sense it blooms pink rather than vivid fucsia like FC says ?
Thanks Allison, that is interesting and good to know. You are amazing and I am glad that you share what you know.
I got mine as a sport but mine blooms pink too :)
Hmm
Just maybe the person who registered it thought vivid fucsha in their eyes is pink. lol I got mine from Bluebird
I have grown several babies but all from one Mom so they are just First generation i can growfeabis from diffeent leaves from same MOm still first generation when it comes to Av's. It takes a long time to get third.
Even first just think how long it takes to put a leaf down before you get a blooming Mom plant...then do it again and again...Some of my babies flowers just open their so small one so cute in a one inch pot..they are dark fuchsia. But who knows after..and after the flowers are open a long time they get lighter. The sister plants to the one I sent RG. Different leaf but same Mom, same generation...the one I sent her has been blooming non-stop for over a month. I just love this plant what ever shade it blooms :))
I have two tiny , tiny Funny Bunny plants. All from the same Mom plant as the one I sent to RG. I mean on is so darling in a one inch pot blooming . They are blooming deep vivid fuchsia ! I think sometimes ( have even read this) enviroment, light, tmepertures, fertilizers ) can make blossoms lighter or darker shades. But these two little babies have dark vivid fuchsia . I just love Funny Bunny what ever shade blossoms it may have their always blooming :))
