Have Aster Tataricus Seeds

Athens, OH

A Chinese Medicinal herb.

Will trade for: tagetes erectus; toad lily (tryicyrtis); or consolida seeds or SASBE

It is hardy to zone 3. It is in flower from September to October. The flowers are hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees, flies, beetles, Lepidoptera (Moths & Butterflies). The plant is self-fertile.

The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil.

This species has been used for at least 2,000 years in traditional Chinese medicine. The root contains triterpenes and triterpene saponins, and is a stimulant expectorant herb for the bronchial system, helping to clear infections. It is antibacterial, antifungal, antitussive, expectorant and stimulant. It has an antibacterial action, inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Bacillus dysenteriae, B. typhi, Pseudomonas and Vibrio Proteus. The root is taken internally in the treatment of chronic bronchitis and tuberculosis and is often used raw with honey in order to increase the expectorant effect. The root is harvested in the autumn and can be dried for later use.

Seed - surface sow in spring in a cold frame. Do not allow the compost to become dry. Pre-chilling the seed for two weeks can improve germination rates. Germination usually takes place within 2 weeks at 20°c. When large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer.

ROX, I would love to recieve some seeds. How do we do this? Have never traded before. I have echinacea purpurea, seed and babys, lavender seed, larrea tridentata (creosote bush) seed, and so many others that I can't think of right now. Is there something you might be looking for? I have white sage, but it is not in seed at this time. Let me know how we do this, and what you might be interested in.
Thanx :)

Hi-
I can definitely send some seed for the Aster tataricus and the artemesia gmelli.
Would you be willing to send some valerian root. Valerian is one of my favorite fragrant herbs. If so, I will send some extra stamps in the package with the seeds to cover the postage.

I don't actually have many Chinese herbs; my friend does. In fact she has one of the largest collections in the country. I have been experimenting with them in my garden. I have a terrible time with deer and they don't seem to bother most herbs.

Hi Rox. Email me at redclovr@pioneer-net.com. and we'll exchange addresses. I guess that's how we do it? I can send a baby valerian, the seed isn't going to happen untill summer. Will that do? Fragrant they are, just like dirty socks! By the way, this is Valeriana acutiloba, which I harvested from forest streams. They were going to log it all out, and I try to save what plants I can when they do that. They are not supposed to log that close to water, but money speaks. They like wet feet and mottled shade, and the soil here is pretty acid, where I found it, it was in amongst rocks and nice humous. :)

Yes,

I received them, but I've been busy with my oldest daughter & my newest grandson. I left the envelope on the compter desk, and it went down the side & I just found it yesterday. Then when I couldn't sleep, I was looking at seeds and thought maybe I didn't send them out to you cause I didn't put a check date in my book next to your name & address. I use just regular composition books now 2/$1.00 and come in colors too.

Anyway, thanks for the trade. The weather is trying to warm up, up North here; stiil going down into the 20's & 30's though.

Rox, I am so sorry if I have offended you in any way. Thank you so much for the seeds, I recieved them this week. You sent them in a manilla envelope, yet I sent you a sase? The Valerian is seeding now, so it won't be long before I send those to you. Again, I appologize for anything I have done.
Sincerely,
Flying Feather

Oh my...you didn't do anything! Nothing at all.
I was just afraid to send the seeds in an envelope. Sometimes they put them through the automatic reader and the seed become flour! I'll just use the envelope for something else.

I am totally fine with waiting for the seeds. Right now I am weeding the garden, tons of onion grass!

Hope all is well.
Sorry I made you worry!

Rox-You are really sweet for responding. My face is red! I misinterpreted your message, the one that said "I resent the email." I read it wrong, and it dawned on me last night in the wee hours. You meant re-sent!!!!! OOps! I'm kinda slow sometimes. I am fighting crab grass in the garden. A-A-A-A-rgh!!!! I have lots of milk thistle coming up, am excited about that. It's growing wild everywhere. Thank you lots.

Athens, OH

It is amazing what one hyphen did! SOOOOO sorry.
