I know some people see this plant as a pest but I think it will be more contained here in the cool mountains. I have been promised it several time but never received any. I will update my trade list so donees (is that a word)? can see what I have.
Evening Primrose Oenothera speciosa
I was given 2 in a trade (only need one), but I don't think it's the pink kind like you have listed. I'm pretty sure it's just common evening primrose. Still interested? If we end up doing a book trade for that Pirates book, I could just put a bit of bubble wrap around the seeds and send it with the book. ; ) Interested in doing a bigger seed swap also?
Cheryl
No I have seeds of the common yellow one. I love the way the pop open around 4 p.m.
I was just up in the KC area (dr appt) and went to Walmart up there. Just checked out their seed section and your evening primrose was there! They had just pink ones and they had an assortment of colors. Try Walmart yet?
not yet. I saw so many people that were overrun with them that I thought I'd get a plant in trade but no luck yet. I will check them out at Wal-mart. I have a nice steep sunny bank that they would look great growing down.
I have ALL the oenothera speciosa that you could possibly want! They all came from one little plant I transplanted into a large bed. They have lots of pretty pink blooms, but they have taken the entire bed and many other spots in the back yard. I am digging everything I value in that bed and plan to use RoundUp on the oenothera this spring. Digging it out has not made a dent as the roots have runners and each bit seems to make a new plant. It should be great on your slope, but don't let it near a flower bed.
Let me know how many you would like to have, and we'll work out details.
Patricia
Patricia, I could use a dozen. They don't need to be very large. It's colder here than in Texas, though, so can they be transplanted now?
I keep trying to work on my Trade List but I still can't get it figured out. I wish Dave could simplify it.
I always have some ajuga, excellent for dry shade but tolerates our rainy climate wonderfully too. I also have creeping jenny and a little of the short creeping vinca. I will be dividing daylilies this summer and have several different varieities. I will also have some bee balm in lavender and scarlet.
I can send the oenothera whenever you are ready for them. I just did not want you to have to start them from seed when I have them running out my ears and am planning to murder them. They have not frozen back here even with the temps in the teens back in December, but I won't start trying to eradicate them until late March or April when things really start growing fast. I still have lots of other plants to move from that bed before using RoundUp. In addition, there are big patches of oenothera over my St. Augustine lawn, and they are solid among 35 feet of dwarf hollies growing against the house. But as the song says, "It's my own d%# fault!"
Some of your ajuga and perhaps a little of the creeping jenny would make a great trade for me. I am planting a small wooded area and could use some ground cover. I'm in no hurry, and any time this spring will be a good time for me. Just D-Mail me when conditions are right for you to transplant.
Patricia
Patrica offer them for trade before you murder them lol.
I would love some too for the dry sunny bank above the pond. I don't have much to offer in trade as I lost everything I owed in Hurricane Katrina and am starting over in a new place. I am getting some seeds started though and finding some good cheap buys on e-Bay here and there so maybe I will have something to offer in spring. I do have amaryliss bulbs the former owner had stuck everywhere. Would you believe I have given away about 50 already. Don't know what color they are but still have a few left if you are intrested.
Donna, I would love some amaryllis and don't have a color preference. I also have other plants you might like to have to help you rebuild a garden. I'll D-Mail you!
Patricia
