I'm trying to make a list of all the plant clubs for Galveston County, Brazoria County and Harris County and their contact person. I would like to get permission, from each club, to list them on our Galveston Co Plant Swap web page. We have so many people interested in joining a club in their area that we thought this may help guild them. At this time it is very difficult to know what or how to contact a garden club of their choice. Could you please list any plant/garden club and their contact person you may know of.
Thank you,
margie
Plant Gardening Clubs
Margie, check out the the Sat edition of the Chronicle, they have a calendar of gardening events that usually involves garden clubs with contact people. You might also check with your local extension office. They might know of area clubs.
Thanks maggiemoo. I know the extension doesn't but will check out the Chronicle. I found out there was one right here in my town I didn't know about. I can understand why so many people have a hard time finding where the clubs are. I have people looking for specialty clubs such as the Day Lilly Club or Hibiscus Club. We really need a list of all plant clubs for the area.
That's true. I went to the plant swap at the Mercer Arboretum in the fall, and met a woman from Conroe there. We got to talking and she mentioned that she belonged to the "Conroe" garden club. I was amazed! I'd never heard of one in my town! Unfortunately, they meet in Kingwood(!), which is further than I'm willing to travel. I know there's one in River Plantation, but it's only open to residents of River Plantation.
Hmmm, I wonder if any of the larger local nurseries would know of garden clubs? Maybe the clubs ask for special group orders, or come as a group sometimes, or something.
Perhaps you should ask Brenda Beust Smith (the Chronicle's Lazy Gardener), and if she doesn't have some kind of list, maybe she can publish that she wants them to contact her so she can publish one!
I noticed that the Sugarland Garden Club has their own website: http://www.sugarlandgardenclub.org/ . there is a document on the site with growing hints "for information about the growing conditions for local plants based on the experience of members of the Sugar Land Garden Club living in the Sugar Land/Missouri City/Richmond area." Pretty cool!
Yep! I have been wondering about the garden clubs here in Dallas too, but some are real snooty, so I never bothered! lol! I have a book around here someplace that list the local garden clubs in the area. I will try to find it.The Morning News use to list garden in the friday paper
