i like this maroon with white edges..what do you guys think...
does anybody else but me like this one
Very pretty! I have a NoID which is similiar but it is read instead of purple.
I LOVE the flowers that are edged in white :)
ill bring you some leaves monday.,..i think it's a pretty one...
been looking at the stores but no new av's i've seen.....HD does still hve the hanging lipstick plants...what's it called (aeshi...something or other..)..lol
Aeschynanthus pulcher....looked it up
Doesn't it make you wonder if at some point these noids had names. Someone had to hybridize them and the growers had to at some point decide which ones to grow for ease, quick rooting, hardy etc... ?
i just got it on the 2nd..with the other noids...but my memory of 40some years ago with the AV's is that there was one id'd to that....i still wish i could find the pics from 40 years ago....of the av's...
It's beautiful Bob ! Sometimes I wonder if they had names and workers take them off or they fall off ?
And then again Optimara is not naming plants any more and harder and harder to get them excpt for big bucks. And then you get these Nurseries they are just putting down thousand and thousands of leaves, growing them low cost in order to sell them to the public stores.
That's why it's important to keep track of names and grow Vintage so their not lost in the shuffle. When I first started buying I never cared about names and never kept track even though they were named plants that cost me a lot. They did have their names on the pots whcih were nice !
I enjoy ones with History , knowing a little about their Hybridizer. It's fun learning !
oh allison you are so right....the history of the plant makes it so much more important i think...and it is fun
Yes Bob do you remember Ehtel Champion ? Greatest Hybridizer . She past away this past summer in her 90's. She has 260 something Av's in FC and more that were not registered. Most of her plants are hard to get. She was the first for Mosic Foliage and the yellow crown variegation too ! I love her plants.
And how about Volkman's !
Over 300 plants by them in FC ...so many more hard to find than ones you can find. Nice growing plants :))
Allison
OH Allison i certainly do remember volkmans....i had asked also about Anne Tinari before...she was secrtary or veep of AVSociety...they had a big nursery in Pa...probably still have it....think they expanded into xmas trees in winter and that kind of thing.but they certainly were one of the big sellers in the 60's..along with Lyndon Lyons etc...
Glad you're enjoy the FC so much...Very windy here this morning...30mph gusts..making it feel cold.
Junglebob! that's beautiful.
I have heard of Volkman's- what are they?
hi april..volkman's was (are they still in biz?)...a really good company that raised violets etc...Allison probably knows more about them...
I don't think they are in business anymore. They have
wonderful plants and most hard to find.
Gosh allison..they were one of the biggies 40years ago...i DO need to FORCE myself to go through my closet of old magazines and find the GSN magazine and the AVS MAGAZINE...you might recall that the GSN folks and the AVS folks got too big for their britches...started fighting etc...SO..they broke away from each other and formed their own groups...wasn't always pretty....lol....but that was many moons away...
Volkman's has over 300 V's in FC all gorgous :)) Purple Lace, Green ice, Garden Party,Any of their plants would bea treasured t own :))
allison i remembver purple lace and Green Ice...the latter was very special...
the wonderful thing about belonging to the GSN group 40 years ago was that they had a seed library...and all members could get seeds free...the members made donations of seeds to the fund and everyone shared..
