Colorado Springs Newbie Here! :)

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 5b)

Hello everyone from Pikes Peak. I've always been a closet gardener sticking to mostly container gardens on my apartment patio. Well this last fall we bought a house (my 1st), and while it is a bit of a fixer-upper, its very cute and just the right size for my DH, DS, and our two dogs. I grew up in FL, went to school in CA, and work as brought us here. I really don't know much when it comes to landcape design or gardening in general, but am going back to school to get a degree in enviromenal biology, and I hope that along the way I'll learn a thing or two about native plants of Colorado. I'll be happy to post pics of our home as things progress, and be even happier to read any advice or suggesions this community has. Now that spring is close I want to get started on the front; its rather sad currently.

Welcome to Dave's Garden! I have a sister-in-law in the Springs - it is gorgeous up there! :-)

Hey Lisa. Welcome to Dave's. I have relatives in the Springs and enjoy visiting. I notice your yard is the standard 5 shrubs and grass. That is going to be expensive to maintain. Please check out some of the great xeriscaping done in your area before you put any money into grass. Your pocketbook, the water control board and your DH will thank you. Jessamine

Actually, I've been looking at xeriscaping for a while, and love what I've seen so far. I'd love to do something like that its something that I can do over time. I'll be doing lots more research since I really have nothing in my head as far as what I'd like for it to look like.

Thanks for the welcome!
