I got a tiny lil Chirita kazu from a friend. She kept it outside and gave it to me because she was afraid she was killing it!
This is an understatement..the plant is almost dead but I want to try to resurrect it.
The bottom leaves are all wiltly...the very top ones seem ok.
Should I treat it like an AV and long neck it?
Any help would be appreciated!

Help with Kazu!
Well take it out of the pot check roots damage, bugs, ...If any doubt cut the top part off , wash it warm/hot water air dry, neem oil it and pot it up. I don't cover up to you.
What ever goes outside in my house never come in..
Ok thanks Allison...I am going to give it the good old college try.
Does not seem to have any damage...I repotted it yesterday. I did neem oil it.
Would you pull the soggy leaves off or leave them on?
ditch the soggy leaves?....
That would be my guess Bob but I am new to Alsobia so I thought I would ask :)
I think this is a mini alsobia so would dearly like to save it!
Kazu ()
Tall growing green foliage. Blue blooms
Chirita right Lorry ? I don't think it's a miniature.
And Albosia Aygnet sure is not a miniature I've grown mine in a full 12 inches pot :)) And yes always take soggy, or old, or damge leaves off and dead flowers always take them off your plants too :))
Good LUck ! Allison
Thanks Allison..I am going to try :)
I know Cygnet isn't a mini..it grows LIKE MAD!
LOL

I will give it my best shot though..I promise you that!
Be sure to take "before" and "after" photos, Lorry.... When he's looking gorgeous and lush again, you just won't believe it's the same plant! I've got faith in your very green thumb! :-)
ah good comments critter...what little i remember from my other life in AV's...i tried to remember NOT to give any more water when i had soggy leafs...don't know if that's right or not
Ugh Critter..without CPR I am not sure this guy will make it LOL but I will try
and will take a before and after photo *If there IS an after*
Lorry if you think it's root rot cut them off and just pot up the crown it will re-root fast. Also is there a good leaf you can put down for insuance :)) You can do it !
The leaves on top are good but VERY small.
I have never seen root rot so that I dont' know about.
you could add a bit of hydrogen peroxide to your water to help keep bacterial rot in check... in case you have it.
Do not over water and make sure it has enough humidity until it takes off. It'll probably be fine.
you can also go to Sticky and then go to Dr. Optimara for info :))

Did your friend say she left it out in the cold and it was too wet ? Chiritas not like African violets can live in 40 degree waether and even colder if they have to. You took all the rotton leaves off. It was to wet ? Let it dry out and keep it warm. I still say if I felt it had root damage I would take the crown and re-pot it rather than lose it. Allison
Thanks for all the advice guys :)
And yes..he may have been to wet..she does love her plants too much at times.
is root rot when the stems at the crown are filled with liquid?
root rot is when the roots rot.... crown rot is when the crown rots.
You can sometimes see symptoms of root rot in the foliage, but not always.
Bob
Optimara hare some good info on Root rot. It also has treatmant, one is to isolate as root rot is caused by fungus called Cylindrocarpon. It also says in treatment I forgot about Lorry don't fetilize it for 4-6 weeks until the plant is healed :))

Bob I was just reading Dr. Optimara on Crown rot . Crown rot is caused by Phytophthora fungus, which attacks the roots and, most notably, the crown of African Violets.
Not like root Rot where plants may be saved...crown rot is most likely fatal.
