I am working on the date for the Dallas area Daves Plant swap for this fall. I know several people told me they would like it at a later time in the year (Sep was tooooo hot) and some people thought we should have it at a new park each year. So getting ready to plan this is the thread to post where you would like to see the swap and when you would like to see the swap! I am thinking Oct, or early Nov - but I want all your ideas...
Fall Plant Swap - Dallas
Good thinking, Mitch. I'll just go wherever you guys go, since I don't know the area. I agree, Oct is better than September. If November, it needs to be really early, before the holidays start to take over and we find ourselves without time to get everything in the ground.
I'm thinking mid-October would be good. This last one was freakishly hot in Sept! It's usually nice before Halloween, then it's like THAT day the weather changes and we could either be Trick-or-Treating in snow, rain or shorts. But usually after that it gets colder. If we don't ever get colder this year, then who knows what it will be like in Oct.! We might need to be having it inside!
LOL, that's the truth!
October sounds great - anyone want to talk about where to have it at? I know for those who carried a lot of plants to the swap last year had trouble getting it all up there - we could just have it in the parking lot, head up the hill again, or find another spot. I loved the gardens where we had it last year - soooo keep your eyes open and lets find a great little spot!
I think mid October is great too, and yes carrying the plants was a lot of work.
May be we could exchange the plants we bring for trade in the parking lot, and take to the pavillion only the ones that are not taken, that would reduce the volume of plants and only might take one trip.
Of course that is only a suggestion, I am open to whatever park you guys decide to have it in.
Josephine,
There's a gazebo at the city park in Ovilla, & parking is close (huuuge as Ovilla is, everything's close!)
All we have to do is reserve the gazebo, no fees.
Plus, my office, which has such amenities as a refrigerator & genuine indoor plumbing, is just across the street.
To reach Ovilla, take Cockrell Hill Road south from Beltline (between Cedar Hill & DeSoto).
Sylvia, ....the former texasgreen???
Edited I now see the Q and you are right..

I do have one question, Sylvia does the gazebo have tables and benches?
Josephine.
I think it is Sylvia that was "texasgreen". I saw on another thread that she had asked Dave to change her name for her. There are a lot of people coming over from GW and it's nice to have the same name so people recognize you.
I'm ok with the gazebo where everything is close. It's further away tho, so some may not like that. The place where we've had GW swaps at Trinity Park is good too. Either way, Frank will sure be happy!
Trinity Park is way to far for me to travel - I was really going to go this year to the one there until I saw the map yikes!
Yes, I'm sylviatexas/texasgreen.
The gazebo is about 18' across, no tables, but there are 2 picnic tables with attached benches outside the gazebo, 2 concrete benches in a sunny area, & a concrete table with benches nearby.
The set-up would be similar to the one at Trinity Park in FW, where we brought camp chairs & blankets or whatnot to spread on the ground, & the tables were used for food & beverages.
I think the FW Swap probably will continue, since there are lots of people close to that area, but there are lots of us who'd like to have one handier for the Grand Prairie, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Ellis County, etc areas.
That sounds like a workable situation Sylvia, so I am O.K. with it.
Josephine.
Ever since the swap I have been keeping an eye out for a wagon. I'll certainly bring one, no matter where we make the swaps. There's always something to carry.
Hehe - I bought my son one for Christmas,,, yea for my son untill swap days!!
Mitch, you rat, lol!! I guess I'll buy one for... my future grandchildren, yeah, that's the ticket!
:-)
Hey - he loves it 300 or so days a year, the rest of the time it is mine!
